Recognition Characters

Small, ellipsoidal with many compressed, vertical elongated units. Consistency is stiffly spongy. Surface is marked by many upright ridges from which spicules project. Spicules are smooth subtylostyles characteristic of dermal brushes and membranes and small acanthostyles sharply bent.

Attach to rocks or within crevices of reef. Depth unknown.

Distribution at GRNMS

Rare. No voucher specimens have been collected.

North Carolina south to Florida
