Recognition Characters
Four to five purple spots on first segment of abdomen. Flattened, plate-like antennae are smooth, and the forward portion of the second plate is squared-off.
Color
Body is a mix of purple, reddish brown or orangish brown. Legs are yellow with tiny brown spots.
Habitat & Depth
Inhabit reefs and rocky outcroppings. From 1m-80m.
Distribution at GRNMS
Rare. More common on deeper reefs off Georgia.
Geographic Range
North to North Carolina, South to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gulf of Mexico and Bermuda
Behavior & Notes
Hide in protective recesses during day and forage and migrate at night.
