Recognition Characters

Encrusting, covering small areas. Surface has numerous large 1-5 mm slender, frequently compound conules. Tissue is soft with stiff elastic fibers.

Bright Yellow

Habitat & Depth

Encrusts rocks, wrecks, sea whips, and other gorgonians and sponges. To 25m depth.

Distribution at GRNMS

Occasional. Encrust a variety of other organisms and substrates.

Geographic Range

North Carolina south to Florida, Caribbean and West Indies
