Colonies: 8-14cm (4-6)'', Individual Branches: 0.5cm (0.25")

Recognition Characters

Colonies consist of tangled, twiny small white tubes. Often encrusting but also grows in circular clumps on bottom. Close examination reveals tiny crowns of radioles at tube head.

Intertidal to 100m depth.

Distribution at GRNMS

Common. Colonize tops of ledges and nearby hardbottom areas.

Geographic Range

Filograna implexa is reported northward from Florida to Cape Cod. Filograna huxleyi is reported in Florida and the Caribbean
