Size

Length: commonly between 3-7cm (1.25-2.75")

Recognition Characters

Small sea cucumber. Body form is characteristic with heavy, conspicuous tube feet aligned in 5 radii (longitudinal rows). Mouth is concealed by prominent oral valves. Body wall is rigid with numerous ossicles consisting of buttons and baskets.

Color

Light brown to chocolate brown. Tube feet lighter colored than rest of the body.

Habitat & Depth

Mixed sand and shelly bottoms. Occasionally deep inside of sponges. To 37m.

Distribution at GRNMS

Occasional. May be difficult to find since it remains buried or partially buried within sediments.

Geographic Range

North Carolina south to Brazil. West Indies and Gulf of Mexico
