Santa Lucia in Sweden
One of the very well known Swedish folk songs is Sankta Lucia. The song of Santa Lucia is originally a Neapolitan boat song from Italy, but the Santa Lucia lyrics were changed to Swedish Lyrics about St. Lucy feast.
Every year around December 13th, the Swedish celebrate Santa Lucia's Feast Day! The girls from each of the towns dress up like St. Lucy in white gowns with red sashes and they wear wreaths with candles in their hair. One of them becomes the St. Lucy for the year.
As pre-Christmas song, the tradition gives that Lucia and her "entourage" of "tärnor, stjärngossar, pepparkaksgubbar and tomtenissar" , visit everyone on December 13th, each year.
