“Alla fiera dell’Est”(“At the Eastern fair”) it was written by Luisa Zappa, Branduardi's wife, and is freely inspired by the Hebrew song חַד גַּדְיָ (which means "a goat" but also "a child"), used during the Passover ceremony, in which is celebrated the liberation from slavery in Egypt.

Alla Fiera dell’Est, note e significato
Alla fiera dell'Est è stata scritta da Luisa Zappa, moglie di Branduardi, ed è liberamente ispirata al canto חַד גַּדְיָ (che significa "una capra" ma anche "un bambino"), usato durante la cerimonia del Pesach, la festa in cui si celebra la liberazione dalla schiavitù in Egitto.
Il testo originale, apparso per la prima volta a Praga nel 1590, è scritto in un misto di aramaico e ebraico. Sebbene il canto, nella sua semplicità, sia adatto ai bambini, molti studiosi lo considerano un'allegoria delle diverse dominazioni che il popolo d'Israele ha subito nel corso dei secoli: il bambino, o la capra, simbolegia il popolo ebraico; il gatto l'Assiria, il cane Babilonia, il bastone la Persia, il fuoco l'Impero Macedone, l'acqua l'Impero Romano, il bue i Saraceni, il macellaio i crociati, l'Angelo della Morte i Turchi. Infine Dio ritorna per condorre Israele alla salvezza.
