Katyusha/Катюша/Katjuša
The song is about a Russian woman called Katyusha. Standing on a steep riverbank, she sends her song to her lover, a soldier serving far away. The theme of the song is that the soldier will protect the Motherland and its people while his grateful girl will remain true to him. Its lyrics became relevant during the Second World War, when many Soviet men left their wives and girlfriends to serve in World War II, known in Russia as The Great Patriotic War. Many of the men never returned home, with an estimated 8,668,400 Soviet military deaths.(Wikipedia)
Interestingly, Isakovsky left several options for developing the plot in the texts. Including the ending. According to the researchers' calculations, the song "Katyusha" will be credited with at least two dozen uncensored versions on the Russian fronts of World War II.
The song immediately became "mass"; with the war it became a planetary song. World War II is made up of two songs: this one, and Lili Marleen, which are still two songs known all over the world.
Katyusha has had a lot of versions in different languages.

Monument to Katyusha in Vladivostok
KATJUŠA
Rascvetali jabloni i gruši
Poplyli tumany nad rekoj
Vyxodiła na bereg Katjuša
Na vysokij bereg na krutoj
Vyxodiła, pesnju zavodiła
Pro stepnogo sizogo orła
Pro togo, kotorogo ljubiła
Pro togo, ći piśma beregła
Oj, ty, pesnj, pesenka devićja
Ty leti za jasnym sołncem vsled
I bojcu na dalnem pograniće
Ot Katjuši peredaj privet
Pusť on vspomnit devušku prostuju
Pusť usłyšit, kak ona poet
Pusť on zemlju berežet rodnuju
A ljubov' Katjuša sberežet
Rascvetali jabloni i gruši
Poplyli tumany nad rekoj
Vyxodiła na bereg Katjuša
Na vysokij bereg na krutoj *
[*Var. Ucvetali jabloni i gruši,
Uplyli tumani nad rekoj
Uxodiła z berega Katjuša
Unosila pesenku domoj.]

KATYUSHA
The apple and pear trees were blooming
The mist floated over the river
Katyusha was walking out to the shore
To the tall, steep shore
She was walking out, beginning to sing
about the blue-gray eagle from the steppe
about the one, who she loved
about the one, whose letters she treasured
Oh, you, song, the song of the maiden
You, fly along behind the cloudless sun
And, to the soldier on the far border,
send regards from Katyusha
May he remember the modest girl
May he hear how she sings
May he protect his motherland
And Katyusha shall treasure their love
The apple and pear trees were blooming
The mist floated over the river
Katyusha was walking out to the shore
To the tall, steep shore
[*Var. The apple and pear trees had bloomed,
The mist had covered the river
Katyusha was returning from the shore
Bringing home a little song.]
KATJUSHA
Meli e peri erano in fiore,
La nebbia scivolava lungo il fiume;
Sulla sponda camminava Katjusha,
Sull'alta, ripida sponda.
Fagli sentirla cantare
Possa lui proteggere la terra natia,
Come Katjusha protegge il loro amore.
Meli e peri erano in fiore,
La nebbia scivolava lungo il fiume;
Sulla sponda camminava Katjusha,
Sull'alta, ripida sponda. *
[Var. I meri e i peli sono fioriti,
La nebbia ha ricoperto il fiume
Dalla sponda è tornata Katjusha,
Ha portato una canzoncina a casa.]
