John Jones, Fireman, SS Unity. Sunk by torpedo, 2 May 1918. Born at Holyhead.

As another possiblity, CWGC records do include Fireman John Jones, Mercantile Marine, aged 34, from Holyhead lost on SS Unity (Goole). SS Unity was torpedoed and sunk by UB 57 on 2 May 1918, 3 miles WSW of Varne Light vessel, whilst voyaging from Newhaven to Calais with ordinance. Twelve persons were lost. However, there is no John Jones connected with SS Unity listed on the Holyhead Memorial.

The Roll of Honour included in "Holyhead and the Great War" list two people who died with the name of John Jones. One lived in Station Street, whilst the other at 5 East Arthur Street, Holyhead.
