Robert Thomas, Storekeeper

Robert Thomas, Greaser/Storekeeper, Mercantile Marine, RMS Leinster. Lost at sea, aged 35, as a result of enemy action in the Irish Sea on 10 October 1918.

He was born at Holyhead on 4 April 1883 the son of William and Elizabeth Roberts. He was the husband of Jennie (Jannie, Jane) Thomas (nee Jones) of 20 Rock Street, Holyhead. They married in about 1908. His wife was from Bron Llan, Capel Gorman, Denbighshire. In 1911 they lived at 20 Rock Street, Holyhead - Robert Thomas (27), employed as a Fireman/Trimmer, Jannie Thomas (34), Margaret Elizabeth Thomas (2) and Robert William Thomas (7 months).

His daughter later died at Holyhead in 1940. His wife died at Birkenhead in 1963.

Awarded the Mercantile Marine Medal and the British War Medal.

Commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial. He is also commemorated on a memorial plaque at Hyfrydle Chapel, Thomas Street, Holyhead.
