John Parry, Electrical Light Attendant

John Parry, Electrical Light Attendant/Fireman, Mercantile Marine Reserve, HMS Tara. Lost at sea as a result of enemy action, age 57, on 5 November 1915 in the Mediterranean Sea.

Born at Llanddeusant, Anglesey on 5 April 1859. He was the son of Robert and Margaret Parry (nee Williams) of 8 Trearddur Square, Holyhead. His father was a Shoemaker born at Llanddeusant, Anglesey. John Parry married Martha Anne Griffiths at St. Cybi's Church, Holyhead on 21 September 1892. Their only child, Lillian Augusta Parry, was born on 21 August 1893 at Holyhead.

In 1911 the family lived at 7 George Street, Holyhead. At the house were John Parry (51), employed as an Electric Engine Man for the LNWR, Martha Anne Parry (48), Owen Lewis Griffiths (44), a Wood Sawer at a Joinery Works (brother to Martha) and Lillian Augusta Parry (17), a part time Music Student. His wife, Martha, died, aged 79 in 1940. His daughter, Lillian, married Frederick C Jones in 1922.

Awarded the Mercantile Marine Medal, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Panel 9. He is also remembered on a Memorial Plaque at Elim Chapel, Thomas Street, Holyhead and on his wife's grave at Maeshyfryd Cemetery, Holyhead.
