Griffith James, Royal Welsh Fusiliers

Corporal, Griffith James, 2918, 1/6th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Died, aged 27, of Tuberculosis on 10 August 1916 at New Lodge, Penrhos, Holyhead.

He is not listed on "UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919". He is also not listed on the Royal Welsh Fusiliers "Roll of Honour". However, he is listed on the CWCG "Debt of Honour Register". At the time of his death his occupation was listed as a Master Plasterer. In August 1916 the battalion was serving in Egypt.

Son of Richard (d.1931) and Sarah James (nee James) (d.1944), of New Lodge, Penrhos, Trearddur Bay, Holyhead. In 1901 he lived with his parents, four sisters and one brother at Felyn Heli, Holyhead. The eldest son, he was employed as a Stable Boy, aged 13. His father was born at Four Mile Bridge, Anglesey and was employed as a Labourer. In 1911 he lived with his parents, five sisters and three brothers at New Lodge, Trearddur Bay. He was then employed as a Plasterer for Contractor. His father was employed as a Labourer for a Gentleman, probably on the Penrhos Estate.

Buried at Four Mile Bridge (Sardis) Baptist Chapel Burial Ground. His parents are buried in the grave immediately behind this headstone.
