William Roberts, Seaman

William Roberts, Seaman (Cook), Mercantile Marine, RMS Leinster. Lost at sea, aged 46, as a result of enemy action in the Irish Sea on 10 October 1918.

He was born at Amlwch in about 1873 the son of George and Jane Roberts of Pen y Bonc, Amlwch. His father was employed as a Copper Smelter. He married Mary (Roberts?) in 1905 and in 1911 lived at 14 Wian Street, Holyhead. They had a daughter, Lizzie Jane Roberts, born in 1905. At the time of his loss it was reported that he was the father of two children.

Awarded the Mercantile Marine Medal and British War Medal.

Commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial.
