Owen Jones, Fireman

Owen Jones, Fireman, Mercantile Marine, HMHS Anglia. Lost at sea due to enemy action, aged 28, on 17 November 1915.

He was born at Holyhead on 25 April 1886, the son of Owen and Elizabeth Jones (daughter of John Williams, Llanddeusant). He was educated at the British School, Holyhead. His siblings included Richard (b.1877), Jane (b.1879), William (b.1880), Mary Ann (b.1882), Sarah (b.1885) and Robert (b1889). In 1891 the family lived at 14 Summer Hill Terrace, Holyhead.

He married Grace Ann Dowding, daughter of Albert Dowding, 48 Foundry Street, Holyhead at Valley on 9 July 1906. They had two children, Owen Jones, born 8 February 1907 and Elizabeth Ellen Jones, born 19 February 1914. In 1911 Owen and his family lived at 48 Foundry Street, Holyhead, the home of his wife's Grandparents, John and Ellen Davies and their son Evan Davies.

His wife later resided at 29 Hexham Road, Mount Road, Gorton, Manchester.

His wife was later to lose her brother, Able Seaman Albert Evan Dowding, RNVR, in September 1918 at the Western Front.
