Robert Evans, Quartermaster

Robert Evans, Quartermaster, Mercantile Marine, SS Connemara, died on 3 November 1916, age 39, due to a collision at sea.

Born at Holyhead, he was the husband of Annie Evans (nee Jones) and lived at 7 Gilbert Street, London Road, Holyhead. They married at Holyhead in 1903.

He had been in the service of the LNWR for 19 years and had previously served on HMHS Anglia, surviving her sinking twelve months previously.

In 1911 the family lived at 19 Gilbert Street and comprised Robert Evans (34), Annie Evans (nee Jones) (34), born at Caernarfonshire, Owen John Evans (6) and Robert Elias Evans. Also at the house was Owen Jones (64), father of Annie and a widower. His wife, Annie, was awarded compensation of £4 a month. She died in 1942 aged 65.

His body was recovered for burial at Maeshyfryd Cemetery, Holyhead - Section 2, Grave 1532.
