William Jones, Boilermaker

William Jones, Boilermaker, Mercantile Marine, HMS Scotia. Died at his home, 8 Swifts Square, Holyhead on 5 May 1915, aged 52.

In 1911 he lived with his family at 8 Swifts Square, Holyhead. He was aged 48 and originated from Carnarvon. His wife, Catherine was aged 48 and came from Bryngwran, Anglesey. They had been married for 18 years. The children included Catherine (16), Willie (14), Maggie (11), Jane (9), Mary (7), Griffith (4). Also living at the house was William Jones' father Robert Jones (77), born at Caernarvon.

He was invalided home after sustaining an accident on board HMS Scotia. He left a wife and nine children and had been an employee of the LNWR Company for 25 years.

William Jones is not listed with the Commonwealth War Graves Commision (CWGC) Debt of Honour Register. His omission may have been due to the nature of his demise not meeting the requirements for CWGC commemoration. The town has considered this differently and has included his name on the Memorial.
