Frederick Barber, Steward

Frederick Barber, Steward, Mercantile Marine Reserve, HMS Tara. Lost at sea as a result of enemy action, age about 38, on 5 November 1915 in the Mediterranean Sea.

Born in 1877 in England (Roby, Lancashire) the son of Frederick and Clara Jane Barber (nee Clamp). His father was a Corn Merchant. In 1901 the family lived at Holywell. He was the husband of Anna Maria Barber (nee Graham, b. about 1881 in Dublin). They married in Dublin in 1908. They had a child, Elizabeth Clara Barber (b. 1910 in Dublin). In 1911 his wife and child were living at 10 New Houses, Edmund Street, Holyhead. At this time he was recorded as a crew member (Steward) on board SS Scotia at Kingstown (Dún Laoghaire) Harbour. May also have lived at 4 Roberts Street, Holyhead.

Awarded the Mercantile Marine Medal, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal
