John Ellis Jones, Greaser/Fireman

John Ellis Jones, Greaser/Fireman, Mercantile Marine Reserve, HMS Tara. Lost at sea as a result of enemy action, age 37, on 5 November 1915 in the Mediterranean Sea.

Born at 4 Back Jew Street, Holyhead the son of Ellis and Jane Jones. His father was a Railway Goods Porter and originated from Rhoscolyn, Anglesey. In 1901 John Ellis Jones was employed as a Railway Cattleman aged 22. He married Catherine (Owen or Pritchard) at Holyhead in 1909. Later in 1910 they had a daughter Jane Ellen Jones. In 1911 the family lived at 10 Lligwy Street, London Road, Holyhead. He was then aged 32 and his wife 27.

Awarded the Mercantile Marine Medal, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
