David Charles James Evans, Steward

David Charles James Evans, Chief Steward, Mercantile Marine, SS Connemara, died on 3 November 1916, age 27, due to a collision at sea.

Born at Holyhead he was the son of James and Margaret J Evans. His father was a Ships Carpenter and was born at Milford Haven Pembrokeshire. His mother came from Ramsey, Isle of Man. In 1901 the family resided at 10 Devonald Street, Holyhead and comprised James Evans (43), Margaret J Evans (46), Maude A Evans (19), David Evans (12) and Harriet Evans (4).

In 1911 the family resided at the same address. His mother died in 1912. His father passed away in 1925. His sister Maude married Douglas Brown of North Stack in October 1917. He was engaged to be married to Janet Felicia Rowlands, a Shop Assistant, of 3 Front Bath Street, Holyhead.

David Evans had joined the LNWR aged 14. In his will he left £281.6s.8d.

He is buried in a family grave at Holyhead (Maeshyfryd) Burial Board Cemetery. Section 2 Grave 980. (The gravestone is now lying flat)
