William Humphrey Jones, Deck Boy
William Humphrey Jones, Deck Boy, Mercantile Marine, SS Connemara, died on 3 November 1916, aged 16, due to a collision at sea.
He was born at Holyhead, in 1900, the son of William John Jones and Hannah Jane Jones (nee Owen). His father was a Mariner from Llanfachraeth, Anglesey and his mother originated from Bangor.
In 1901 the family lived at 23 Gilbert Street, Holyhead and comprised William John Jones (26), Hannah Jane Jones (24), Lizzie Jane (3) and William Humphrey (9 months). In 1911 William was at his paternal grandparent's house at 9 Tair Mynedd, Bangor with his widowed father. His grandparents were Thomas and Elizabeth Jones. Thomas was a retired Police Officer. At the house were his other siblings - Elizabeth Jane Jones (12) Richard Samuel Jones (7) and Mary Elizabeth Jones.
His mother had died at Holyhead on 10 January 1910, aged 33.
He had joined the LNWR service 12 months previously.
His body was recovered for burial in his mother's grave at Maeshyfryd Cemetery, Holyhead - Section 2, Grave 98.
The headstone is lying flat and not in good condition.
