William Prys Williams, Chief Officer

William Prys Williams, Chief Officer, Mercantile Marine, SS Connemara died, on 3 November 1916, aged 37, due to a collision at sea.

He joined the LNWR on 26 May 1903 as Second Officer and was promoted to Chief Officer in 1914. He was born at Fourcrosses (Y Ffor), Pwllheli on 12 April 1879. His brother, Dr. Prys Williams was the Inspector of Schools for West Wales. He left a widow and two children.

In 1911 the family lived at Fron Glen, London Road, Holyhead. His wife, Mary Catherine Williams (nee Hughes) was aged 28 and from Rhyl, Flintshire. They married at St. Asaph in 1909. They had a son Gwylmor Prys Williams, aged 10 months. Her husband was not at the house at the time of the census. A daughter, Nerys M S Williams was born at Holyhead in 1913. His son married Isabel C Redman at Holborn, London in 1937.

He is buried at Holyhead (Maeshyfryd) Burial Board Cemetery, Section 2, Grave 1482. The grave also contains the remains of his wife, Mary Catherine Williams who died in 1964, aged 81.
