Isaac Woodall, Fireman

Isaac Woodall, Fireman, Mercantile Marine, SS Connemara died, on 3 November 1916, aged 28 due to a collision at sea.

Born at Holyhead, he was taken on by the LNWR on 20 May 1914. Before joining the Connemara in February 1916 he served on the Holyhead vessel Cambria from 21 July 1915 when she was utilised as a Hospital Ship. He left a widow and one child. They lived at 14 Wynne Street, Holyhead and possibly at 43 Wynne Street.

He married Margaret Mary Jones of Llanfaethlu at Tabernacl Chapel, Thomas Street, Holyhead on 27 July 1915 and they had a son, Edward Hugh Woodall, born at Holyhead on 11 September 1916. His widow married Henry Thomas Roberts at Holyhead in 1919. Isaac was a great friend of Owen Thomas Williams, also lost on the Connemara.

His wife was awarded compensation of £4 a month for twelve months and then reduced to £3 a month.

His body was recovered for burial at Maeshyfryd Cemetery, Holyhead - Section 2, Grave 1407. The headstone is a modern replacement/addition. The grave also contains the remains of his widow's second husband, named here as Huw Thomas Roberts (he died as a result of a mining accident in South Wales in July 1924).
