Robert Williams, Steward

Robert Williams, Cabin Boy, Mercantile Marine, HMHS Anglia. Lost at sea due to enemy action, age 20, on 17 November 1915.

He was born at Holyhead on 9 August 1895 and educated at the Board School. In 1911 the family lived at Tandderwen, Garden Place, London Road, Holyhead. His father, John Williams (54) was employed as a Seaman. The family included his mother, Jane Williams (51) and siblings Lizzie Williams (17), Annie Williams (12), and Martha Williams (10). At this time Robert (15) was employed as an Errand Boy.His father, John Williams, died in 1917 whilst serving on HMHS Cambria. His name is also recorded on the Cenotaph.

Awarded the Mercantile Marine Medal and British War Medal.

Commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial. Also commemorated on a memorial plaque at Noddfa Chapel, London Road, Holyhead.
