Hugh Williams, Royal Welsh Fusiliers
Lance Corporal, 1659, 2/6th (Carnarvonshire and Anglesey) Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Died, aged 34, on 12 January 1916 on Home Service.
The Battalion was formed at Carmarthen in September 1914 as a home service ("Second line") unit. In 22 April 1915 it was attached to 203rd Brigade, 68th Division at Northampton. It then moved to Bedford in July 1915, onto Southwold in November 1916 and then Henham Park (Halesworth) in May 1917. It was disbanded on 8 September 1917.
He was born at Llanfachraeth and In 1891 the family lived at Carnau, Llanfachraeth, Anglesey. His father was employed as a Carter and his brother William (b.1874) was a Millier. In 1911 his father, John Williams (51) and mother, Jane (54) were residing at 65 Newry Street, Holyhead. No record of any award of Service Medals can be found. He is reported to have been accidentally killed.
Buried in Holyhead (Maeshyfryd) Burial Board Cemetery, grave location 2.881. (Also buried with him is his father, John Williams, who died on 3 February 1929, aged 74).
