Use and create simple geographic tools such as maps and globes.

Student Learning Targets:

• I will write walking directions to the cafeteria, library, nurse's office, etc.
• I will know the parts of a map and how to use them.
• I will create a map and label the parts (including a title, compass rose, and legend or key).
• I will use a map to locate important places in my school, community, state.

Essential Questions:

• What is the purpose of a map title? Compass rose? Legend/key?
• Show how you exit the building during a fire drill? Write or draw your answer.
• How do we use maps?
• Compare a variety of maps. How are they different? What is their purpose?
