14 Instructional Days - 1st 6 Weeks
Hyperlinks are for content teachers
Big Idea:
Order real numbers, describe relationship between sets and subsets of real numbers, approximate value of irrational numbers, and convert between decimals and scientific notation.
Student Expectations:
Priority TEKS
8.2(D) [Readiness] Order a set of real numbers arising from mathematical and real-world contexts.
Focus TEKS
8.2(A) [Supporting] Extend previous knowledge of sets and subsets using a visual representation to describe relationships between sets and real numbers.
8.2(B) [Supporting] Approximate the value of an irrational number, including PI and square roots of numbers less than 225, and locate that rational number approximation on a number line.
8.2(C) [Supporting] Convert between standard decimal notation and scientific notation.
Student Learning Targets:
- I will organize a set of data in ascending and descending order.
- I will approximate irrational numbers.
- I will convert between standard and scientific notation.
- I will write the subsets that real numbers belong to and explain why.
Essential Questions:
- Why is it important to be able to write numbers in different formats and be able to order and compare those numbers?
