8th Grade Math Unit 12

Equations and Inequalities/ Transformation Project

10 Instructional Days - 6th 6 Weeks

Hyperlinks are for content teachers

Big Idea:

Equations and transformations (mainly dilation)

Student Expectations:

Priority TEKS

8.10(B) [Supporting] Differentiate between transformations that preserve congruence and those that do not.

8.10(D) [Supporting] Model the effect on linear and area measurements of dilated two-dimensional shapes.

Focus TEKS

8.8(C) [Readiness] Model and solve one-variable equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign that represent mathematical and real-world problems using rational number coefficients and constants.

Student Learning Targets:

  • I will use the transformation of dilation to create a project.
  • I will extend my previous knowledge to prepare for Algebra including topics such as solving equations and inequalities with variables on both sides, distributive property, factoring, functions, and graphing.
  • I will write about how the transformation project can extend into real-world tasks.

Essential Questions:

  • How can the transformation of dilation help you create something for a possible future occupation?
