daud and corvo team up dh2 au (version 39821732189132)

after the outsider pulls corvo into the void at the start, and mentions that "daud couldve warned you about delilah, if only you asked", corvo gets looking

in between dh1 and 2, corvo kept tabs on dauds whereabouts - for emilys safety. while daud SAID he wasnt going 2 be an assassin anymore, corvo wasnt taking any chances. so, come dh2, corvo knows vaguely where daud is - hes been living a quiet life in karnaca. hmm also - through having kept tabs on daud since dh1 etc and haivng info, corvo is also aware that after jessamine daud DID have one last job.... not an assassination,, the details are vague... but there was. something

after corvo finds billie/megan, is on the wale, pulled into the void and is like "damn ok. lets find daud and find out what the FUCK delilah is about". corvo is like to billie: i need to find the assassin daud, the man who killed jessamine during the rat plague. i have... i have heard whispers that daud knows about delilah - has dealt with her before. and he owes me. he may have killed one empress but he can save another [bc obv at this point, corvo doesnt know that daud saved emily before already]

billlie is. hm. no. corvo gets megan/billie on board, and billie is terrified, ready to run away from all this and hide, bc shes not ready. she barely knows corvo

finding Daud

but she can see already taht corvo is willing to work with daud - and not kill him. so. shes tells corvo who she is, what happened with delilah - from what she knows. that delilah is a witch, that daud... defeated her but how exactly billie doesnt know. that daud saved emily... and agrees to help corvo find daud. while corvo is off to addermire to find sokolov/eliminate the crown killer, billie follows the vauge leads corvo has to track daud down

corvo knows daud is somewhere in karnaca and debates about tracking him down - "daud couldve warned you about delilah" - and maybe he needs all the help he can. but, first things first, corvo needs to go to addermire and find old sokolov. and, when corvo mentions looking for daud to megan, she is dismissive and asks if corvo REALLY wants the help of an assassin... but yeah. so when corvo sets off to head to addermire, hes in two minds of finding daud or doing it alone.

when the crown killer killings started up, corvo worried at first it could be daud - daud was dangerous enough. but the killlings were too brutal and messy and bloody to be dauds work. still, to be safe, corvo kept extra caution and more details on dauds whereabouts, just to be safe...

when corvo first bumps into daud, hes like. shit. bc at this stage, corvo hasnt actually decided if he would want - or needs - dauds help. sure, the outsider did do a cryptic reference but could corvo manage by himself. probably. but then daud is there in front and him and corvo is like. might as well. need all the help i can get

corvos like vibin along, running across the roof tops - theres guards on that one so corvo heads left, to what looks like arooftop garden, he jumps, blinks, lands and- theres a man. standing, water some plants. and corvo freezes, waiting to see if the guy will run away, call for guards - so much for being subtle - but the man does none of that, just stares. like he recognises corvo which is impossible because, yknow, the mask... and then the man speaks "hello lord protector" corvo recognises the voice and wishes he updated the lenses in his mask becauses hes old and needs stronger glasses - his eyes focus on the mans face and... shit. daud. on a rooftop. in karnaca. watering his plants.

daud has changed in the past 15 years. His hair is completely white and receeded a good few inches more, his eyes hooded and a lot more wrinkles. And has apparently taken up gardening. hmm ok so when corvo first meet daud, they go into dauds flat and chat and have tea bc daud. anyways. corvo asks about what the outsider means, by daud knowing delilah.

"lets just say. I worked with some of her witches a couple times. And against them another time"

corvo spat out his tea

"aw, dont you like it?" daud looked hurt.

"uh no, its actually really good tea - what did you stick in it?? I need the recipe- but uh. You. With them." corvo laughed.

"you know about her coven back suring the rat plague? The brigmore witches?" daud asked

corvo recognised that name, mustve seen it written down somewhere years ago. Maybe an old overseer report.

"well" daud continued "we worked together for a job - nothing. Nothing youd know about. Then i had another job against them" daud shrugged "i dont excactly side with anyone."

"just yourself" corvo retorted.

daud is. wary at first, thinking death has come for him at last. at this stage, daud is idk running a chemists or somthing, something mundane, something every day. by this stage, hes a known face in the small communitiy hes found himself in. when he first ended up back in karnaca all those years ago, after years drifting around the empire, he kept his head down at first. slowly, he started allowing himself to be known - he helped one old lady fix her roof, helped a few of the men fix the wall by the square after it came down in a storm - and started enjoying life. when he found billie and corvo in his home that day, he didnt know what to expect

smthng smthng at this stage, daud is already satarted to gather intel on delilah. he cant leave a job unfinished. so, when corvo and billie arrive, and it is clear that nah this unlikely due HAVENT teamed up just to kill him, they get to work

daud poitns out that he doesnt need to traverse the roof tops - the guards are lookin out for masked people, newcomers to karnaca, people without identification documents- and daud is now an honest, law abiding citizen. he can just stroll by

daud when corvo wants him to come along:

"im retired!" daud exclaims "look! I have a garden - whos gonna take care of my plants?" corvo pinched his forehead. "my daughter is trapped in stone, a witch is in charge of the entire empire with god knows what planned and all you care about is some plants?" "well. They took a while to grow"

then daud is like jk when we leaving i love chaos

that trope where daud just has a LOT of knife "i collect them" "collect them?" "yeah"

For 15 years Days kept pickpocketing all the ammo he could find out of habit, except he has no use for them so when Corvo comes knocking he has a full armory in his kitchen cupboards. when corvo actually starts notcing things, he sees like. well. daud leans to grab a couple mugs for their tea. he opens the cupboard. and yeah theres mugs in there but also like 13 knives taped the the door. corov also realises theres like incinerary bolts lining the lamp overhead. that cant be safe. etc etc basically weapons and ammo in innocuous places in dauds flat. corvo suddently realises hes SURROUNDED by weapons

Daud macgyvered his home installations exactly like the whalers did in the flooded district. daud is really good at tinkering and macgyvering things

corvo: theres too many guards... if only we had like. a stun grenade or something

Daud: you mean like this

corvo: did you.. did you just make that?

Daud's repairing style vaguely reminds Corvo of something, and then he gets back to the Wake and sees Billie work on the engine, and he's like oh. That's where I saw it.

They get to work

daud knows delilahs associates - breanna, jindosh, the duke. daud also. has heard whisperings that breanna, jindosh and the duke went to aramis stiltons home around the time of his disappearance, but doesnt know if its related to delilah. but delilah DID show up not long after....

ANYWAYS so dauds on board. and daud goes with corvo on all the missions, 2 marked men, no one stands a chance. daud is more familiar w karnaca itself - he knows his way around, knows the people, knows how people will react

obvs daud tells corvo he trapped delilah in teh void through turning her own magic against her. "couldnt you just have killed her! like you killed jessamine!? then none of this wouldve happened!". but obvs, although they know HOW they could take delilah down, they still need 2 figure out why she is immortal and undo that

all the outsider void scenes feature both daud and corvo. Sider must be having the time of his life

corvo HATES dauds guts still but the hate isnt fiery and hot anger, perhaps resentment is a better word

just two old men tryna overthrow the government. and bicker

like everytime they stop and scope out the scene below, the guards patrol patterns and shit, corvo is like just leaning over the railings nad peering below. meanwhile daud is perched up on a dentist sign nearby, smoking broodily. "cant you watch from down here like a NORMAL person?" corvo asks (hes somewhat exasperated owo). "no" daud replies and returns to brooding. He's been brooding for 15 years he ain't gonna stop now

Powers!

and yeah, they both work together and do cool void magic shit. them. fighting alongside each other

Creative power combos... Pull/Windblast combos to throw Large Objects into people. Cumulated time stop. Throwing an enemy towards your ally with Blink Assault. corvo summons rats and daud is just. hes just like. really?? corvo summons rats and daud throws them at the guards.

one gets spotted by a guard, who starts charging towards them. the other blinks behind said guard and assassiantes him. Corvo creates chaos by summoning swarms of rats in the middle of the street, Daud gets the guards while they're panicked/trying to escape

one being a distraction while the other silently picks the guards out. Jindosh monologues at Corvo, meanwhile Daud goes all the way around the mansion and knocks him out before he's done talking. jindosh wouldnt expect daud. he wouldnt expect corvo to work with ANYONE let alone the man who killed jessamine

i feel like daud would be wanting to go the quieter, subtle route even if it takes longer to sneak around the guards, while corvo (althogu also low chaos) doesnt want to waste time

outsider is amused by daud and corvo working together, so he gives them new powers - only works if they are together, can only work if they are together

Power upgrades that need the other:

• Daud is now immune to Corvo's rats

• Corvo can possess Daud without time limit/discomfort for any of them

• Daud can summon Corvo as if he were Bonded

• Cumulated Time Stop

• Chain Transerval/Blinks

• General vitality/agility upgrade when they're near each others

Ideas for new powers:

• Permanent awareness of the other's position (practical during duo fights!)

• Immunity to the other's projectiles

i was thinkin one upgrade could be like. they light up diff on each others dark vision as well - distinct from other living things. also, when they fight in genreal, i can see one stopping time for the others benefit, to share the mana drain yknow

They share bonecharms effects when in the same area. Daud now craves rats. He refuses to eat even though he could recover mana from it.

they can like. chain victims - similar to emilys domino BUT one target each. idk how exactly since obvs if one kncoks one out, the other will get knowcked out too w domino - maybe smthng likes its easier to knock ppl out? Something like Emily's Domino, but instead of one person selecting 2-4 targets, they each pick a target?

I don't know how useful it'd be since this is low chaos and clean hands at least for Daud but: they share the adrenaline pool. MAYBE adrenaline pool, shared, but as it builds up time moves a fraction slower...

I said immunity to the other projectiles to avoid friendly fire but... I realize how powerful it would be with a bit of creativity. One can shoot an enemy right through the other. One can throw a grenade in the other's pocket and the other can throw himself in the middle of guards. One can put a stun mine on the other's back and the other can just wait for the guards to approach.

mana is low, a guard smirks and uses corvo as a shield. things look dire for them - right? daud smiles, and shoots anyway.

hm but. even though they are immune to each otehrs projectiles, it still. kinda hurts

corvo realises. this means he can never kill daud. daud realises it too, nothing is said. im think maybe they are immune to just. any weapon weilded by the other - they dont know the limit exacrtly, they dont want to try too far just in case

corvo lobs a brick, meaning to hit a howler on the dead, but it goes a bit side ways (ok, a lot) and cracks daud on the skull instead. daud is unharmed. corvo throws a whale oil can at daud

Would they share poison immunity? corvos immunity is less storng, but sleep darts dont work

when daud and corvo are near each other (like not super close but in each others vicinity, say same rooftop, same floor of a building type thing), they have a common mana pool. In that, if one uses up all his mana, he starts draining the others.

Daud watching Corvo drain his own mana like :|. Daud trying to preform a transervesal and starts throwing things at corvo who is wind blasting guards on the roof above him

Okay but that could be, like, a cool strat if one of them is injured/can't fight so the other could go ham with double mana. Corvo chugging adermire solutions in the corner like “you’re doing amazing sweetie” as daud fights eight guards

hi breifly thinking about my team up au but along the terms of corvo adn daud using their powers together - corvo summoning rats and daud using pull to lob them at guards. the guards have no idea what is happening and run away scared

also, since daud is a Respected Member Of The Community with proper papers etc and can get past check points no problem

imagine like. a checkpoint and theres no obvious subtle route past. they cant bypass via the roofs, theres no buildings to go through. corvo is about to roll up his sleeves and knock the guards out - not ideal as they want to leave as little trace as possible but needs must. and daud is just like :)))) and walks on through. and corvo is like THAT little SHIT!!!! - before he hears an explosion from the other side and sees the guards run off leaving corvo with clear passage

Or Corvo possesses Daud and they pass through. Possession is a power that is so incredibly fucked up and has such comedy potential at the same time

the FIRST time, daud does the above and corvo is like. wait u can walk right through?? WHEN were u gonna tell me WHY are u on the roof and daud is like :) this is more fun

the second time, before daud is about to run off to make a gay lil distraction, corvo is like. no. i have a better idea and suggests possession. and daud is like. hm. no. dont like the sound of that (at this stage, they dont know corvo can possess daud indefinitely/without issues bc of their shared powers now). but daud relents since ok it makes sense. and compared to the last time corvo tried to possess daud (flooded district)... its completely different. and corvo realises hes not. fully in control. they are sharing a body and corvo has some autonomy but daud also has control

cue the guards at the checkpoint lookin at daud like hes an idiot as he fumbles through words and talks to himself "hello guard i am an Innocent Citizen™️ - psst dont say that that sounds fuckin suspicious atta- - I will say what I want - ANYWAYS you will find my papers are in order so ill continue through - with my little short legs - sHUT UP"

the guard isnt paid enough to care

when they realise they can do it indefintely without consequences. they do it more often. neither really likes it - corvo isnt used to being so short, daud doesnt like sharing, both dislike effectively sharing a mind - not direct thoughts but... vague feelings. but sometimes needs must

back to powers but with the possession actually as well, that provides a quick hiding for corvo. imagine, a guard spots corvo, or a glance and goes to investigate the alley corvo ran into. but twhen he arrives, theres no masked individual, just a short old man.

guard: hello sir, you havent seen a masked individual run this way? he is suspected of criminal activity

daud: sorry sir, no I havent, i hope you catch the bastard- hey!- sorry i cant be of more help

guard: uh. thank you. dont forget about the curfew, it will be enforced in an hour

daud: absoultely - i will start heading home now in the hopes my short legs will get me there on time - stop that - yes sir i am a good citizen - have a good evening sir!

Daud looked at him like he had 3 heads. Now it was his turn to pinch his temples "Are you as thick as whale blubber? Why ELSE would she have all these body parts??"

corvo shrugged "i mean, shes a doctor she needs to study anatomy, its what they learn at the academt i believe-"

"pinned to the walls. They dont do that at the academy, trust me"

when corvo brings daud back to the skiff after the addermire mission. they r in a rush. tryign 2 get away before the guards notice. and corvo is like cmon!! hurry up!! what are you waiting for. and billie is staring at daud and daud at billie. and corvo is like "u guys know each other?" and well. corvo:" ok listen. WHATEVER history you guys have pleASE can you sort it out AFTER we get back to the wale

corov is NOT impressed when he realises megan, or billie and he know calls her, was dauds former protegee

when daud first sees billie again, his face is full of concern. hed recognise billie anywhere, but her eye, her arm. gone. who did this to her?

daud like. insta forgives billie, theres still some. wariness but hes mostly fine, hell hes running around w the royal protector, he can relax around billie. but billie. billie doesnt feel like she deserves dauds forgiveness - shes done nothing to deserve it (a lot of megans notes adn stuff in dh2 is her running from her past and not moving on)

but ye eventually, after a few evenings together, they like. reconnect adn shit

Clockwork Mansion

so daud is tagging along side so is there as corvo carries sokolov out of jindosh's mansion - cue corvo just. being amused at how sokolov keeps annoying daud and the weird dynamic between billie, sokjolov and daud

sokolov starts another daud painting, to the annoyance of daud

in this au, daud hasnt killed anyone since jessamine, its almost a vow to himself yknow, so when corvo told him "no killing" that wasnt going to be a problem. so when Jindosh non lethal, daud is like. "you're not going to lobotomise him!!??" and corvo is like. well. what choice do i have. and daud is just ;like. "no. no no no. you cannot JUDGE for killing and render a man to a fate worse than death" and corvo ppoints out that. maybe if jindosh didnt want this, he shouldnt have aided delilahs coup and created these clockwork soldiers to torment the people of karnaca

corvo is guided by rage in this au - cool rage, but rage nonetheless. daud is just along bc hes feeling sexy and chaotic :P ok jk but u get what i mean. essentially, at times like this, daud is the man of reason

daud - points out that sokolov lich rally was the same as jindosh and guess who they are here to rescue? plus, jindosh literally writes a note sayign he has no allegiance to the crown. anyways daud is smart and traps jindosh within the mechanisms of his own house - and destroys every single clockwork he can. so jindosh lives hes kjust. occupied

What if they,,, recruit Jindosh as well, Corvo’s not a big fan but Daud’s like “if you can keep Sokolov, then I get to keep Jindosh”. Two assassins and their respective chaotic scientist

"oi" daud nudge jindosh with his foot. "waluigi. Wake up"

"waluigi? who the fuck is waluigi" corvo whispered

"eh i dont know, just a name i made up. Suits him though" daud kept kicking jindosh

Corvo sighed, slinging the former royal physician on his back. "i doubt billie will be impressed"

Daud gave an exagerated shrug, almost dislodging jindos. "perhaps, but maybe shell also be glad to have someone to fix the wale"

"or kill us in our sleep" corvo replied

"well," said daud. "anyone on the wale could do that, now"

Conservatory

in the conservatory, corvo and daud HAVE to keep it quiet. teh witches and breanna would go absolutely APE if they see daud, bc they sure as hell hold a grudge. one of the older witches (who was around 15yrs ago) sees daud and corvo has never seen a woman so angry

daud hjas the time of his life in the conservatory, wreckign the place. but also. very cautious around the witches

when corvo speaks w delilahs statue in the royal conservatory, daud stays silent and out of sight, perched on a bookcase (bc thats his personality)

but back 2 the really mindy "daud gets fucking impaled pt 1: royal conservatory" -> like after as corvo quickly bandages him up and idk offers him a bit of sleep dart for painkiller or smthng nd daud is just like. im immune to that attano. painkillers dont work on me and corvo is like ????? real shit???? u cant.... no drugs???

Crack in the slab

in the dust district, in addiiton to ddaud solving the riddle silently, they do the "sneak around completely" and steal the solution option. Theres no WAY theyd side with the overseers and daud refuses to side with the howlers. He hates them, they bully shop owners and rule with fear. Maybe they would be better than the overseers for the people, but maybe theyd get saturated with poeer and justbecome another source of tyranny. And, they dont get rid of BOTH byrne and paolo - karnaca doesnt need more chaos. So. They sneak sneak around

Idk if this was mentioned before but Daud and Corvo in Corvo’s old apartment. They sort of get spotted by guards bc they’re old men so Corvo’s like “ik a place where they won’t find us” and brings him to his old apartment.

Also about Corvo bringing Daud to his apartment for cover but ends up going down the nostalgia road... and they just both end up,, missing their childhood and respective families. corvo knows nothing about daud really, but learns about their shared past. smthng smthng corvo is like why did you settle in karnaca, you had the whole empire? why here? and daud is just like. idk i wanted to come home. and smthng msthng corvo learns that daud moved throughout serkonos as a child, didnt have much

daud isnt able. to mention his abduction - smthng smthng "i lived in karnaca for the longest until - until.... then i ended up in dunwall and the rest is history". The sad part is Corvo probably knows abt his abduction bc of the Heart. corvo remembers what jessamine whispered to him in the flooded district all those years back, and is just silent. But he can’t say anything bc it’s not his place to mention such a thing

It's the first time in- forever that Daud is talking about his childhood to anyone, in fact it's the first time in decades that he's even actively thinking about it. And he says that he went around Serkonos, that his mother was good with poisons and remedies, but he can't remember the details. He remembers a city, but not the streets; remembers a food recipe, but not its smell; remembers his mother's hair, but not her face or her name.

daud wants to solve the jindosh lock but corvo is like. hm. no. lets not xx so they go about the dust district blah blah blah. but meanwhile daud is. subtly. working on the solution. with a piece of paper and a pen he stole (obviously). so when corvo gets the solution, daud is like "hm. dont tell me. its....." and recites the correct answer and corvo is just like

corvo: WHEN DID YOU FIND THE SOLUTION

daud: i didnt FIND it.

corvo:

corvo: you stole it?

daud: what no!? i didnt steal it

daud:

daud: i solved it :)

corvo: really??

corvo: anyways. WHEN were you going to tell me? how long have you had the answer for

daud: uh i solved it when you were buying stuff from the black market

corvo:

corvo: that WAS HOURS AGO YOU LET ME DO ALL THIS???

daud: well it was fun

by the time corvo rescues emily his hair is completely grey from the stress of Daud

theres only one time piece, but its connected to both of them. corvo has it. but if corvo USES it, they both get transfered back and forth in time. hilarity ensues

daud, on top of a bookcase that doesnt exist in 1852: dont you da-

corvo: *takes them back to 1852* :)

daud: -re*falls flat on his face*

like 99% of this au is corvo fukcing with daud, ebcause he can, and knows daud cant do anything about it

again u could have really cool kill combos by TWO assassins suddently appearing in 1852.

Corvo blasted wind at the guard, throwing the bewildered man back. Daud blinked right next to the guard and smashed a wooden chair over the poor sods head.

"what did you do that for?"

"what?" daud looked at the unconscious guard at his feet "couldnt let him run off and warned the others. If you dont want unconscious guards, dont let them see you"

notthat that would stop you anyway daud, corvo thought of the dozens of guards safely snoring in beds, baths and bins once daud had swept through a room.

"no i mean- that was a perfectly good chair, now look at it"

daud looked from the guard who certainly would have a concussion, to the splinters of wood littering the floor, and the two remaining legs still in his hand.

"a perfectly good chair for taking out guards" daud smiled smugly.

Corvo sighed. It was going to be long day. Or night.

"when i say knock him out i MEAN use normal methods - like choke out, sleep dart even a STUN MINE would be acceptable - NOT breaking aramis stiltons furniture."

"why not? He clearly wont be needing it after tonight - ypu saw him"

in this au, daud is the one who knocks stilton out

corvo: psst why did you do that!! that was unneccessary!! who knows what you couldve changed-

daud: billie lost her arm adn eye looking for stilton after he disappeared. maybe now, he never makes it to the seance and never goes mad.

Corvo waited , perched on the struts by stiltons gazebo in the garden, waiting for the right moment to sneak down there and get the combination. Problem was, stilton didnt seem like he was going to move anytime soon. Kept mumbling about missing the old duke. Almost like they were - a whooshing sound, and Stilton collapsed to the ground. Daud lowered his crossbow.

Corvo leaped at daud, grabbing him by the collar. "you. Killed. Him?" corvo was livid, he hadnt felt anger like this im years, not since that day in the flooded district. " i said no killling. None at all."

As someone who deserved better, so she could live in hope and not cultivate her anger for something so immoral. But Billie tries to remind him that he’s done everything he could with whatever they had at that time. It’s just that Daud thinks that he could have done more. Taught her more, told her more. Cared for her a bit more

theres a solid chunk of corvo seeing daud and billie b femther daughmter and feel a pang for what hes missing. and also, that he sees daud isnt a monster. he is human. and capable of love and caring for peoiple. and that in return people love and care for him. and idk corvo sees that, while daud was Bad, he gave a home to a girl woh had none. and realises he did that for many people. adn corov knows what the hellscape dunwall was. and idk maybe daud isnt all bad

Also... maybe something about how for Daud, killing Jessamine was impersonal - just a job. And Corvo did kill people, though not nearly as many as Daud, but for him too it was also just doing his job, and he knows that while none of his victims were innocent, they certainly didn't all deserve death.

pre corvo bumping into him, outsider had been visitnig dauds dreams, annoying him, but also suggesting that cor vo would pay him a visit, also sider mocking daud about the job he didhnt finish. smthng smthng corvo and sider say something to daud along the lines of "the one time killing a target would be a good thing and you didnt do that"

in between dh1 and 2, dauds stopped studying the occult. he hates the outsider, and the curse of the mark. he hasnt visited a shrine since hes left dunwall, and hasnt seen the outsider much either. apart from dreams.

moments of softness and sadness, where daud is kinda like. i didnt know. i didnt know delilah would come back. corvo being like: if you knew. if you did know delilah would come back like this. would you have killed her? and daud. doesnt answer. bc he. he still woudlnt have killed her bnack then. couldnt have killed her.

convo between daud and corvo, where duad mentions he s thought about taking out theduke several times over the past years, w9ndering if it would atop the damage the duke had been doing. But, as he continues, he never did. He learnt the hard way not to interfere w the ruling class, and if he took out the duke, who knows who would replace him? Someone better? Someone as bad? Someone worse? Daud made a decision to stop influencinh key events. But now, with corvo, idkdk but hes taking out the duke at last. But this time, dayd feels postuvite about what the outcome may hold

corvo is stitting at that desk in the center of the main bit of the wale, trying to read something. wood shavings keep dropping on him. corvo looks up - the skylgiht thing is open - and dauds there, legs swinging as he carves his wood. corvo is torn between politely asking him to move and just leaving him in peace. he goes with the latter

idk where daud sleeps but. corvo can hear him recording audiographs in the evening. cant hear what hes saying, just the backgrounjd murmurs. seems to go on for hours. every night. corvo has NO idea how daud has so much to say. corvo would LOVE to find out.

Okay having some thots abt the team up au and Billie and Corvo becoming close friends as well. When Billie wrote “we could’ve been good friends” in her journal about Corvo I FELT that. Billie adds another dad to her collection

Anyways I constantly think abt the fact that Corvo finally gets to eat Karnacan food again

First thing he does after stepping off the dreadful wale is finding something to eat. He takes a bite of actual karnacan made food for the first time in decades and promptly bursts into tears

Counterpoint: Corvo tends to push over his limits in his quest to save Emily. Time is pressing for sure but Corvo’s anxiety and PSTD just pushes him to the limit. He doesn’t want to go through what he went 15 years ago, he just wants to go home as soon as possible and see his daughter again (if he even can, he’s not sure there’s even a way to save her yet). And that fear eats him up, it exhausts him and Corvo just keeps pushing and pushing because what good is he for if he can’t even do his job right, what good of a father is he if he lets his daughter suffer for longer than she needs to. The others see this, but he’s getting weaker, snappier and he’s really not as young and energetic as he used to be, which frustrates him even more because where is that energy when he needs it. Daud talks to him one night, tells him that he needs to rest and Corvo replies that he sleeps just fine, but that’s not what Daud means. Daud asks Corvo when was the last time he had done something for himself and Corvo doesn’t see the relevance of his point, the last person he needs to think of is himself. But that’s exactly Daud’s point and he tries to convince him to do something for himself, something fulfilling something that would put his mind at ease even for just a couple of minutes because how can he save his daughter if he’s not healthy himself

So they go out one night, to the city. Corvo doesn’t know what he wants to do. Daud was right, when was the last time he had treated himself? Yes Emily and Jessamine were always his priority, his happiness and his joy but there were times when he felt tired

Corvo starts small, Daud’s only tagging along to just help Corvo get out of trouble if he needs to, even though he knows he’s capable of doing that himself just fine. They go to a bakery. A bakery Corvo would go to when he was a little kid. And it surprised him that it’s still open.

Without his mask, a change of clothes, his beard and hair grown due to the lack of shaving supplies on the ship and well Daud beside him, he’s not as recognizable anymore. They get to calmly walk on the street. Looking at small things, little details like the lights of apartments, vines covering buildings and Corvo remembers what it felt like to live for a little while

when daud catches up to corvo ("here, you dropped this") he is shaken and quiet. corvo doesnt really notice and if he did, he wouldnt care. but hearing the woman he kills whisper all those things at him stays at the back of his mind

idk WHAT exactly jess would say but it would alternate between her like anger similar to the "why have you brought me to him" line in dh1, like idk smthng like "the man who put me in this prison now carries me so delicately", "once a killer, always a killer" or idk, stuff daud DOESNT want to hear, maybe preying on his own internal doubts/troubles... and other generic lines like the being lost in a fog that hits home that her spirit is. trapped. shes in limbo

bc i dont think corvo would ever really acknowledge that?? hes too overcome by having his love back to think about like. her soul being trapped... its a gift to him and yeah. but daud is more horrified but doesnt say anything to corvo

IDEA for funi au. when they release jess's soul (idk originally i was gonna hav corvo do it alone bc its a Moment). but. what if dauds there and jess is like. "i forgive u" or maybe not quite but "ur a better man." "thank u for what you've done" etc in referecne to taking down the dukle and trying to save emilk

mmm also the thing about the heart and daud is that. daud is so haunted by his mistakes. the heart is a massive symbol of the biggest mistake he made. and i think, for daud, having jess, someone he killed. say that. would b so healing for him

hes working alongside corvo and corvo is tolerating him, and daud is trying to fix things. but for jess to say that. daud would probably cry. bc he can never undo what hes done adn he doesnt deserve forgiveness from those hes hurt. but beonig recognised as doing better. that means a lot. which is why i think jess saying "ur better man now" is more fitting than forgiveness bc like. lmao no one should forgive their murderer xo

but also. when she appears or not. isnt predictable. sometimes they could RELALY use a ghost right now!!! but nothing. and other times she just appears when corvo is making fun of daud just to join in

actually if daud and corvo are sharing a room and jessamine's spirit DOESN'T leave then he presumably has to try to sleep with the glowing blue spirit just THERE watching him. corvo can sleep with a nightlight anyway bc he's had to deal with sleeping next to a small nightmare-prone child

most of it is daud technicalyl doing as corvo said but also if corvo doesnt explicityl spell it out. well. its free real estate. corvo doesnt know what will kill him first: the witches and guards literally out to kill him specifica;lly, or the stress and exasperation from working with daud. Half the reason Corvo goes no-stealth-full-assault is because he has zero patience left in him

daud runs a chemists - smthng smthng mentions his mother did that smthng smthng. ANYWAYS!! pre-daud actually going off w corvo, when they first reunite and stuff. daud mentions that he is now a law-abiding tax paying citizen thank u very much. and corvo is like "?? you?? pay taxes??" and daud is like "yes. me. paying taxes" .... corvo asks daud why hes still going by that name bc HELLO hidden identity?? daud the knife of dnuwall hello?? and daud just mumbles something about how for years, the onyl thing he had from his mother was this name

daud is actually having a pretty good time during all this, aside from the waves of guilt that pummels him. for the first time in years, hes freely able to fight guards, break into buildings, and all that. he hasnt done it to that extent since his dunwall days - hes kept his skills sharp by parkouring over the karnaca roof tops - but hes ever given himself free rein to unleash his chaotic energy onto the unsuspecting guards.

daud drops a hint he spent a semester at the academy - and corvo is like "hah- waitholdonaminute you went to the academy? the academy of natural philisophy? the place where all the top minds of the empire study? you?" nd daud just shrugs

the contrast of daud and corvo in this is great, bc on the one hand you have the royal protector, although not upper class himself he does know how to be "proper" and so on, is used to comforts and idk just. not being feral. meanwhile daud THRIVES on chaos and is just. having a good time

BUT. at the same time, daud is educated and actually knows shit like that and corvo is just. really?? real shit

also. whjen sokolov wakes up. hes all :) at daud. ALSO sokolov is like WAIT MEGAN YOU KNOW DAUD?? YOU KNOW THE KINFE OF DUNWALL and megan is like yeah and also my name is actually billie haha. also daud is my dad.

When everything is resolved and Corvo finally gets home, Emily notices that he has become significantly more chaotic and playful with his methods. Corvo has an existential crisis when he realizes Daud has rubbed off on him.

continuing short daud points for team up au: daud standing on boxes, steps etc when he and corvo stop to talk, so he can be taller than or the same height as corvo. or sometimes a bit closer

daily life stuff

They have to house Corvo, Daud, Hypatia, Billie, Sokolov, Jindosh if we keep that plotline. It's definitely gonna be an issue

billie obviously keep s her space bc fuck u guys. and her cabin is really small. hypatia gets her own room bc they respect her

daud is given the choice of sharing a room w corvo or sokolov. he picks corvo. daud sleeps on corvos floor.

Daud's sleeping schedule is made of elastoplastic so he stays awake at night and steals corvo's bed in the morning. Because his back can't stand that long of sleeping on the floor. That, or he gets himself a hammock. OH CORVO BUYS HUIM A HAMMOCK

jindosh gets the boiler room. jindosh has to share with sokolov and everyone's awoken to the sound of sokolov being smothered with a pillow. actually they're awoken to the sound of jindosh's maniacal laugh as he smothers sokolov with a pillow.

jindosh and sokolov take turns trying to murder each other #justnaturalphilosopherthings. if it was a cinematic game or something, every other scene on the wale would have sokolov and jindosh trying to kill each other in the bg

also, daud sleeping on corvos floor opens up room for Sadness re daud having nightmares and stuff. Oh also: apparently Daud sleeptalks so there's something to work out of that

when corvo wakes up from his nightmare, daud sees that look of pure hate in his eye @ daud and he knows what corvo was just nightmaring abt.

uh corvo wakes one night, so a loud sound! and thinks they are under attack at first - but then he realises. the sound is daud thrashing about, and hes murmruing about . something. YEAH DAUD SLEEP TALKS but it s not always coherent. one night, he just says im sorry over and over. corvo doesnt know what to do

Corvo hears him talk about chopping off limbs and he has no idea if he's nightmaring or just babbling nonsense

eventually corvo buys him a hammock and daud is like !! thanks and corvo is just like. nah its so i dont fall over you again when i go for a piss in the middle of the night.

one njight, when the boat is on course back2 dunwall, they all go on deck and drink. and relax

Hey since it's a passive power; what if Daud assumes Corvo has poison resistance (that he just hadn't unlocked yet back in DH1 but surely by now he's powered up enough?) and he just hands Corvo an open sleep dart like "have a drink :)" because that's how he gets drunk. And, lo and behold, poison immunity is a specific of Daud's powers and not part of the basic package. So Daud downs one of his own while Corvo's just looking like 8| with an open sleep dart in his hand.

We haven't talked much about it but. The idea of Hypatia and Daud cohabiting is so fucking funny.

Local nice doctor wakes up in her lab, learns that she's been unconsciously eating people alive, is invited to a random boat and she accepts because what else is she gonna do, and now she's living with the most famous assassin of the century. The fucking Knife of Dunwall. The guy who killed the Empress. Also the Lord Protector is here and for some reason, instead of gutting each other or something, they're bickering over who gets the non-wobbly chair at the dinner table.

deluilah loses her SHIT when she sees daud. also delilah just. cannot BELIEVE that corvo would work with daud. oo she tries to turn corvo against daud again and then corvo makes a speech about daud

so does billie not come along like earlier. nah billies ACTUALLY solving the problem. She ninjutsus behind delilah as they're all having a crisis and jojo theme music starts playing

ok but if she was also fighting that could be fun, delilah trying to turn daud against billie, and corvo against daud. delilah is teh queen of manipulating,,,, shes doing her best but. so much time has past since billie betrayed daud and she never would again. corvo. hates daud. but knows that daud was just the tool. meanwhile delilah WOULD actualve try to kill everyone he holds dear

When they get to "the world as it should be", they get "separated" (they're actually still all together, but it's a very realistic illusion). And Delilah has a chat with them all, separately, trying to turn them against each others.

(I know hiaen's gonna drop some heartwrenching shit but also consider: It goes off the rails when it suddenly becomes like in movies where the FBI interrogates all the different witnesses and they all tell wildly different stories and are all completely useless) Honestly I thought about Delilah showing one of them an illusion of one of the other bending to her will and betraying them

They all break the illusion in different ways; Corvo genuinely thinks the two others have changed and are on his side, Daud's like "you know if either or them wanted my skin I'd let them :/", Billie trusts that both guys are pragmatists and professionals who would at least wait until Delilah's dead to gut each others

daud. despite all the jokes. is at peace with the thought that corvo might kill him when its all over and stuff. hes fairly... neutral about it all and knows what he deserves? daud also knows billie wouldnt betray him again, shes changed - they both have - and he knows it. I feel like daud knowing and accepting corvo might kill him after and that's okay could actually be a reason why he feels like he can let loose a bit in the first place. He doesn't hold any secrets from corvo anymore and so what's the point of staying grumpy and brooding on this last set of missions? Maybe gardening taught him a thing or two

corvo, beleives both have changed ofc and stuff and yeah. It's actually at this moment that Corvo realizes that he genuinely trusts that they've changed, and even though he's not forgiving them he... lets go of the resentment. Because he's been holding some simmering hatred for the entire adventure, but as he got to have lunch with them and fight alongside them and plan missions with them and sneak around with them, he's started seeing them as humans who love and are loved and are making a real effort at goodness, clutching on the resentment was getting so tiring.

He's too old and too tired to have energy to spend on hatred. He won't forgive, but they've changed enough that he can let go and not feel like he's making a mistake. basically. the key thing between corvo and daud is that corvo can never and will never forgive. but he can live with them etc etc
