Heelys back in here hi, so mildly related to this but in general, a similar thing happening w corvo becoming Royal Protector

Bc it’s like the Blade Verbena all over again, except this time there’s no-one here to see him. His mum isn’t smiling in the crowd like the verbena, and his father and sister are long gone. He’s the first Serkonan royal protector and his family can’t even see it.

He’s pretty sure the only other Serkonan he can see in the crowd of his swearing in ceremony is the serkonan ambassador (who is albeit clapping very loudly and is obviously rather happy about corvo’s appointment).

He knows back home they’re celebrating it, and he should be really happy for himself too, but there’s that hollowness from the verbena increased tenfold. It doesn’t feel right to celebrate it without them (which is stupid because his mum's been dead over a year and he thinks he should be over it now, he shouldn't be moping on a day like today)

There’s probably a party after the ceremony and Corvo very well knows it’s not really about him, it’s about nobles trying to suck up to the Emperor, but he talks to so many people and is really not a fan of being so in attention. Plus it’s not exactly making anything any easier, only reminding him of how different everything is and that most people still hate his guts for the exact reason why him becoming royal protector is so impressive lol

uh he gets his own private room in the tower, moved out the barracks (and can’t help but think about how hollow finally getting his own room felt when his sister left). And what’s a really great thing about having your own room? Nobody can hear you when you cry into your pillow because you feel super homesick and can’t even let yourself be happy about what should be the best day of his life!! yay
