Yeah hey what the fuck does this mean (from “Reply from “T”, 1st DOTO mission):
“Yeah. I saw him. Two years ago, here, in Karnaca. He even asked after you. I said I hadn't seen you since that night in the Flooded District. I'm sure you know why I lied.
He never stopped killing, you know. He's got the same old grudges. I just hope you're not one of them.”
Is this unreliable re: killing because Thomas is still really hurting from how things ended?
I think that, and also imo its him trying to protect billie from daud?? Bc daud is the man to hold a grudge, so i think thomas lies about the killing to put billie off trying 2 find him
or something like that
She goes on the mission to find Daud knowing that he might want to kill her
For her and Thomas, he still hates her
IMAGINE THE RELIEF WHEN SHE FINDS HIM [Daud] AND THEY'RE OK
but also i think that's what billie expects as as well - from her dialogue and demeanor in dh2/start of doto, she is fully expecting to have to make it up to daud etc, but instead he's just like ayy lmao lets go
It must've been hard making that decision, trying to find the person that you betrayed, I don't think I'd do that even if I were to see the possibility
(re: T’s note)The killing thing with daud always rubbed me the wrong way bc even if it’s self defense he still killed people and then whole thing with Corvo is that he promised he wouldn’t kill anymore which is a promise I don’t think he took lightly but then arkane said “haha well guess what? We don’t give a fuck”
i thought in canon daud just lives as a recluse for 15 yrs until around the time of dh2??
Nah he probably killed to survive, he lived all over the place so
Well bad assumption sorry daud
I agree with edge, that bit with killing bugs me a bit. I can get sometimes he would kill to survive - but that would have been occasional enough that Thomas would probably not hear about it.
He is after all ridiculously overpowered - he probably has multiple ways to get out of trouble without murder (remember kids, knocking people out is not murder!)
imo killing in self defense in [the context of the pits] is diff to before, before dh1 - but thomas wouldn't have heard of that
i still maintain thomas lied 2 billie, the way he words it is as if daud continued murdering people by the dozen like he did pre dh1
What I can think of is that Daud would have some relapses? From what I've heard of the books he clearly didn't have a good time for his entire 15 years exile, so maybe at some point he gets into trouble and he's just so fucking done with trying and he picks the easy way out.
And then he goes back to avoid killing, but the deed is done.
(I really like redemption arcs that include relapses because it's something that is either rarely mentioned in media, or treated as a way to portray a character as irredeemable)
I’m thinking that like, maybe daud's killing can be tied into the outsider. When you try to convince him to let the outsider go free he is certain that the outsider is vile, evil, doesn’t give him a chance to change. I haven’t read the books but I can picture in those 15 years daud really tried, but it isn’t easy bc he has had a lifetime of killing and he gets frustrated and snaps and thinks “people don’t change so why should I stop killing”, tying into like the fact that he doesn't think the outsider or Billie can change either
Also yes relapses was kinda what I was thinking too lol
He’s had a life of killing! I don’t think, even as hard as he tries, it’s going to be as easy to completely change himself as fucking off to serkonos
oh yeah definitely not!!! But again - dlc low chaos, ergo over the dlcs daud is slowly weaning himself off relying on death as a solution and beginning to sneak, stealth, and knock out more
so while an instant change re fucking off 2 serkonos isnt likely, we gotta remember the preceeding 6 months
this is still such a good point tho angst - it is especially reiterated by daud’s dialogue in doto
but at the same time, the level of regret we see in daud in both dh1/doto
in doto he really is a sad old man at the end of his life, full of regrets and wanting to do one "good" thing before he goes (in his eyes, at least)
He probably goes back and forth
yeah!! back and forth between viewpoints
not on a set path after dh1, but rather meandering along
Thinking about that earlier discussion you guys about about Thomas’ note, Daud mentions early in DoTO that he’s been investigating gangs and cults around the Isles lately
That might explain why Thomas is like ‘HE’S NEVER CHANGED HE’S STILL GOING AROUND KILLING PEOPLE!’ when he saw Dood two years before DoTO while Dode really just spent most of the last fifteen years in a hole avoiding civilization
