Description:
she's kind, but I imagine she would have to not be so empathetic otherwise it'd wear her down very quickly. she’s been weathered by her line of work I think, seen enough death that it impacts her less and less. doesn’t mean she’ll work any less hard to save them though, of course
early on she was probably not very forgiving of herself when patients under her care died, even if it was absolutely not her fault. youngerpatia just. blaming herself for not being able to save people and it wore her down emotionally So Fast that she had to step back and reassess herself
vasco probably comes in at the perfect time, hypatia goes through a bunch of "failures" where she loses a lot of patients and he's brought on and metaphorically slaps some sense into her
FNFKDN JUST... “hi I’m your newly recruited emotional support assistant apparently”. walks in. immediately becomes a shoulder to cry on. accepts his new job as unfortunate personal mini therapist
he sees her blaming herself over deaths she literally had no way to prevent (“dude. this guy was like. in half when he got here. there’s nothing you could possibly do”) and just... gently reassures her a tad, reminds her that she’s doing her best and that she couldn’t possibly save everyone, even if that’s grim and sad
i could see it going both ways, in that one has to force the other to accept that you just cant save everyone
...and when she inevitably blames herself for the murders “she” eventually commits, there’s no one to talk any sense into her about it
