“His hands do violence. But there is a different dream in his heart.”
Its such a poignant line?
it hits you with the violence, his job IS violence and that is plain to see. Daud's external image is one of violence and death. But then it hits u with a "different dream in his heart" and idk that paints a picture of yearning for something else, something more perhaps. but he is continuing along on autopilot, doing what he has always done, the only thing he knows
i wanna know what this "different dream" is - assuming its living in peace, with no more murder and death
I was thinking along the lines of the fact that he wood carves in retirement and maybe deep down Daud has always wanted to create things and be an artist too but like he can't really do that ya know?
Which kinda draws similarities between him and Delilah and creation and arts, and also does follow that one discussion we had about Dishonored being so focused around art (Emily, Sokolov, and Delillah all being artists, Mindy being a tattoo designer, etc)
Like Daud was skilled with his hands, like it's something very broad that could be turned into a lot of things, but under his circumstances he was put onto a path of violence and murder and destruction, but there's so much potential in arts and creating too with skilled hands, and again tying into the idea of if Daud was dealt a better hand in life then things would've been so much better for him
OH THAT’S SO GOOD!!! yeah!!! quick hands,, skillful hands,, could do so much more IF life had gone differently
also, that heart line is one of the ones that can flip ur perception of a character. before, to you, the player, daud is a murderous assassin, the cold hearted killer of the empress, who murdered her in front of her young daughter,, among other crimes. a man who is in control of a gang of skilled assassin that he trained. a man who has been doing this job for decades, marked by the outsider. the best of the best. then BAM! "but there is a different dream in his heart". all of a sudden, this cold killer, who comes across as someone confident and certain, direct to the point - is repainted as a man who doesn’t really know what he is doing, someone wanting something else and idk losing thoughts but yeah - the line triggers a perception shift of Daud’s character
The "Daud wants to create" idea is so good because... even in his current life where he deals destruction and violence, he still somehow created something out of it. His gang is a tool to deal destruction at a wider range but it's much more than that too! They have a living place, they have organized training, they have a whole library. Those took long-term planning and some skills that are not of destruction.
