Blue: im just thinking about the dude doesnt have any real allegiances and, when offered a choice of death/lobotomy or like. Not doing that. He would very likely switch sides???? and like SURE take him to court after ans thrown in gay baby jail, but like SOKOLOV IS PISS!!
also like i know jindosh is bad, but hes such a lonely person too?? he just has his work and perhaps hes happy w that but also hes probably never fitted in anywhere, like being a child prodigy, as a kid he would have been set apart from the rest by his intellect, then at the academy he wouldn't have fitted in w the others on account of his age and probs his ego bc real talk
Magpie: Yeah absolutely like the mission needlessly paints Sokolov vs Jindosh when you can have them both. He is...if you listen to the dialogue of his servants the maid notes that she wishes he had a family because it would make his house more lively and the butler is worried that he is not eating
I think he doesn't even have guests really he made this entire house but no one but his staff is there to appreciate it
Blue: can u imagine if jindosh and sokolov worked together on Not Evil things??? Like general infrastructure and stuff??
like i think it would b nice for jindosh to join the Wale Gang ofc but not so feasible given he'd lich rally been torturing sokolov for a while, and sokolov and meagan would be like um no. BUT ignoring that, its just. Hm. And also, in dh1 where sokolov was like the scientist on the bad side and piero on the good side (altho both are awful ppl everyone is awful) - they got to team up!!!!!!! and bring in a lot of cool shit and cure the plague
and jindosh is at or above sokolov in terms of inventing stuff like
Magpie: If Jindosh wasn't a competitive bastard and Sokolov wasn't as much of an asshole in his younger days (when Jindosh knew him from the Academy) I think they would've worked together. It's kinda sad because you can see through some of the subtle gestures Jindosh wishes Sokolov liked him? Like he acts like he hates him and he does torture him for his amusement but he also kind of sort of through his notes wishes he and Sokolov would work together. He says he wishes he could persuade him to help him with the Clockwork Soldiers because of the thrill of invention instead of having to electroshock him and despite being a hardass about Sokolov's stay he still gave him a canvas with paints in his confinement to try and get him on his side. I think it's at one point less of coercion and more of "Sokolov please tell me I did good". I mean he has his portrait in his office where no one else but him enters
Jindosh does not know how to show or receive affection he thinks it's some kind of competition
Blue: god yeah, i think jindosh really looks up to and admires sokolov in so many ways, and his "hatred" of sokolov is more a knee jerk reaction to not being liked back or smthng
and i guess jindosh in part wants to make these amazing things in the hope that sokolov might give him a shred of praise, but sokolov was an old git then and hes an old git now
Magpie: Yeah absolutely I think he actually wanted Sokolov's approval on the Clockwork Soldiers since they were originally Sokolov's idea he never developed. A lot of Jindosh's inventions are an improvement on Sokolov's inventions and idk if Hannah (user kirin-jindosh on tumblr) is in the lab but she once wrote good meta about Jindosh inventing photography because he couldn't paint like Sokolov and decided to make something to capture a picture.
Also when Sokolov held a lecture at the Conservatory, Jindosh went to listen and take notes and later had ideas to improve on Sokolov's invention (I think this also gave him the idea for the Oraculum? Not sure on this one) so they kinda had that Natural Philosopher Competitiveness that apparently all Natural Philosophers have with each other just his was fueled by wanting approval and he took it too far
Blue: tbh when u think about it, jindosh is quite tragic. A little shit, but tragic. like if he had support as a kid instead of his own mother hating him, he probably wouldnt have turned out Like That
Magpie: ep and that is really sad because I think his brother hated him too (he does call him bastard either as a fact or as an insult but he sounds very sad when he says "Hated by my own mother" and then really angry when he adds "Raised by my bastard brother")
And generally everyone was scared from him since he was a kid and he is very scared of being laughed at by his peers probably from his Academy days so like we could've avoided all of that if we got him some therapy
You know when you fight him he says "I'll never understand what Sokolov sees in small minds like yours" which feels like he is a bit envious Sokolov likes Em/Corvo as a friend and not him
