Wasnt there something that said how we only learned more about jessamine later on and it only built on the emotion because it was already too late she died at the start? fridging is almost done right in dh1
AGH YEAH i hate how they added jess lore in DH2 that just made it feel.... worse??? how does learning about jess being a brat as a kid (with no reaction from corv/em outside of outright denial) help anyone???
I feel like they wanted to add some negative dimension to Jess (which I understand, because apart from that she's really depicted as near-perfect), but yeah I too feel like it was badly handled :/ like dude she was what, eight? It's normal to do bitch moves at that age, especially when you're afraid of an adult. I admit its her fault but yall were children????
I’m so mad that emily doesn’t question her path... her and delilah have so many parallels but she’s like NO MY EVIL AUNT IS LYING!!! GRRR They just assume she’s lying and don't even consider how she came to be this person. Corvo and em don’t even try to understand jess as more than perfect, i understand em not remembering her but corvo literally grew up w her??? BRO
I mean they probably dont want to tarnish the pedestal they built her image on. Because she’s dead and they have so little left of her.
I can get it for Emily because for her it's the mother she lost at age ten, she never lived with her as an adult, and she's also the one whose legacy she had to live up to for the past 15 years, so some "put on pedestal" is to be expected
baby jess lying about breaking the vase and blaming delilah could have been interesting also in the context of exploring privilege and entitlement, since she probably didn't know the consequences would be so dire for delilah. when she's older, jess realizes what she's done and pretty much go, omg, I need to be better! and it would tie nicely with emily's own arc about learning how her actions affect those who are less lucky than her (including delilah)
THAT'S SUCH A GOOD POINT! Because blaming a kid that accidentally had her kicked out makes little sense, however blaming the Princess who never looked for her friend or the Empress who ruled over the society that ruined Delilah's life is perfectly valid!
the whole relationship between jess and delilah reminds me a bit of what happened between the two ducal sisters in the Blood and Wine DLC in Witcher 3. in Blood and Wine, the exiled sister blamed her younger sister who'd gotten the throne because the ones responsible for all the bad things (their parents) were gone, so she needed a scapegoat. they could have done the same in Dh2
i wish corvo/emily sympathized with delilah a bit since corvo knows what it’s like being poor as fuck and emily has had to deal with adults pushing her around, but the game didn’t really try to frame delilah as anything but a witch ig. Also the whole "losing their mother to shitty people" thing? They have that in common
