Lunar: I just think that the Dishonored aesthetic is good. Like other than like the steampunk it feels very... folklore? I can’t explain it but the marked ones are an odd few that are just... unique and intrinsic on their own and if you were to explain it to someone you’d sound like a cosmo sheldrake song
Lunar: A boy that can control rats?? An old cannibal woman who once was the prettiest and the most wanted woman in the empire?? A group of misfits turned assassins who are both everywhere and nowhere, shadows of the city??? An assassin trained to let go of her emotions who can talk to rats and has 3 father figures??? A man who lost his secret wife and wears a metal skull mask by night time???
Hiaen: A gang leader who is actually the son of a prince and will never know it? A priest who used to be a soldier and criminal? A 4000yo black-wearing young man who visits your dreams? A human heart that whispers people's secrets? A witch that uses paintings to possess people? A physician who is also an artist and lives amongst the nobles despite his contempt for them?
Ferox: Also like, idk, the chaotic neutral supernatural being that sometimes appears to sailors and could be anything from good luck to an omen of death?
Lunar: It sounds like something you would read to your kids at night in a collection of fairytales. also like, the whole thing with bones and weird shit at sea and all reminds me so much of some folk tales and irl stuff? the weird things people keep for luck, and have done for something in the past? the fact that in dh, people tend to see the ocean as haunted just hits home.
Ferox: the idea that bones washed up from the ocean are inherently cursed? sounds like the shit my maternal grandparents would talk to kid me about
Dino: All those really just give me flashbacks to childhood coz they just sound like the bedtime stories I would get told, given that I grew up in Poland, a Slavic country, which has a lot of folklore
Ferox: and tbh dunwall feels like home in some ways? idk i see some spots at times and think hey, ive been there before. The concept of the flooded district and the water barrier disaster? again, feels like home because that shit happened in the past, and every year certain bits of certain cities just flood and u get used to it
Lunar: The fucking like... style of the game also adds up to it. It looks like it’s an oil painting, almost illustrated. It’s gritty but it has its charm, has like a very Brother Grimms aesthetic to it
Dino: Honestly this may sound like totally ridiculous but theres this Polish lullaby about a spark in a fireplace that is telling the boy stories but the spark always goes out before it can finish the story and that just gives me Outsider vibes for some reason
Ferox: I personally get outsider vibes from some of the various klabautermann stories that ive heard and all. Or the thing when people just casually talk about "oh dont listen to the voices in the fog" as a joke nowadays
I know this is specific as FUCK but like... the rungholt legend? And how you can sometimes find bits of bone stained black out on the tidal flats? Reminds me of how the runes and all are relics of an older, lost city.
