Daud is like 13. Like old enough to be resourceful but still a kid in needs of guidance. I feel like any older than that and he wouldn't have accepted any kind of parental figure.

Hat, Lizzy & Daud

Regardless. Hat is like fucking loaded and gets Lizzy into one of those super good rich schools. Lizzy... doesn't like it. She's absolutely unbearable because the stuffy atmosphere of these schools doesn't vibe with her, and neither do the other kids, spoiled to hell and back for most of them. She changes schools like 5 times before they eventually find some place that has both a high standard of education, and an atmosphere that fits Lizzy. She's still a troublemaker, but the teachers are comprehensive and she manages to make friends.

What I'm getting at is Lizzy being trouble at school and then Mr. Hat adopts some kid out of nowhere and wants to send him to the same school and the teachers are like Oh God There's Two Of Them

Also (and I have this hc in canon verse as well) Lizzy is like 3 days older than Daud and keeps using that fact to lord over him. She introduces Daud to people as her little brother and then they're so busy squabbling about their ages that nobody gets to mention that they look nothing alike

Hat was worried Daud wouldn't integrate well with the others because his education is obviously patchy. But turns out that he learns fast, really fast, and he actually has a taste for academic work so after a bit of catching up he's doing really good actually.

His social integration is... not going as well. He gets along with Lizzy like a house on fire, so there's that. Lizzy enjoys having someone else her age in the house. But Daud's cagey and won't talk about where he comes from, meanwhile other kids keep asking him questions - because they're curious at this age - about him, where he's from, how does he know Lizzy, how he got the huge gash on his face, where did he go to school before. And Daud doesn't want to answer, and when they keep asking he lashes out. One time he answers a question honestly and you can feel the [Nobody liked that] RPG wrong dialogue answer reaction.

He slips out, sometimes, at night for a few hours or on weekends for the entire day, and Hat lets him do because he knows the house must feel off for him sometimes, but he wishes Daud would at least tell where he's going. Sometimes he's gone for a couple days, and Hat wonders if he should have the kid followed.

maybe occasionally, hat catches daud slipping back in, at odd times. Sometimes looking like he never meft, other times with scrapes and bruises and twigs in his hair. like daud sneaking out to run wild, parkour and shit, feel the breeze and have time 2 think. But occassionally gettingnin fighta with bigger kids

one night when he slinks back in, its a bit more than just some scrapes, maybe a bloody nose, a black eye, some gashes - hat spends some time quietly patching him up, not asking questions, but sorta saying that yknow, fighting is good but ita better if u know how to fight and can win no matter if u r smaller than ur opponent...

like hat is a gang leader u said right??? so he picks some of hia men - big guys - and get them to go thorugh thibgs with daud. He finds out Daud already got some basis. Like had some sort of training, but obviously incomplete - and Hat has to wonder who taught him that.

ok what if daud is suprisngly good with a knife too - hat ahain is like?????? can daud collect knives in this au??? Hat thinks its a weird hobby but hell if it makes the kid happy. like pen knifes, antiques, ones w ornate handles. idk hat starts to get knifmves for daud, when he sees a particularly nice one

Mmmmm Hats knows a few knife collectors among his men - it's just weird that a 13 yo would pick that as a hobby, you know. But he gets one of his guys to explain some stuff to Daud, how to recognize a good quality knife from a knock-off, how to maintain them, clean them, what knife is for what usage...

The lil family goes to the museum and Hat loses sight of his kids for 0.5 seconds and finds Daud in the Antique Weapons gallery while Lizzy is at the other end of the building in a room about naval history. hat refuses to go to the gift shop bc LAST TIME when they went to the zoo sdaud stole so much hat has no idea how he wasnt caught

Lizzy & Daud: Feral kids. Hat: Father who has 50 years of experience in appearing Proper but is actually just as feral as his kids.

MMMM what if hat comes home late one night and expects them 2 be asleep, but when he stops outside lizzies bedroom door to say goodnight (like expecting her 2 be asleep and stuff), he hears them both in there babbling away and smiles

Hat. Doesn't always has a ton of time to take care of Lizzy. And her needs are met, they have a bit of house staff and everything, but it's good that Daud's here now because it's not the same to have a chat with the maid or the gardener, and to have family to play with.

The downside is that apparently they're trading knowledge and now Lizzy can pickpocket and Daud has learnt to dismantle motors (but not how to put them back together)

ALSO CONSIDER THE PRANKS. especially bc daud is particularly nifty when it comes to getting to high places and finding nooks and crannys, while lizzie is good with makinh things. Together, they r unstoppable. If they go against each other in prank wars, no one ia safe. The Hatters' basic training now includes being able to cross a building after Lizzy and Daud were given free reign to trap it

like hat taking daud and lizzie with him 2 the "office" or whatever for like an hour bc he had a quick meeting and some things to sort, and after they were gonna do Family Stuff and i cant think but lizzie and daud getting up to SOME shenangians like that. The Hatters not knowing how to react because on the one hand they're the Boss's kids, but on the other hands if they're not stopped they're gonna blow up the building. They already had trouble managing Lizzy, but they know her by now and they could manage, but now Oh No There's Two Of Them. like the hatters are VERY cautious around them but also lile "hey guys do u think u could tone it down a bit?? maybe dont play with naked flames around the dynamite we happen 2 have lying around"

Samuel

One of the teachers at Lizzy and Daud's school. Is Samuel.

I was gonna suggest if not teacher, I could see him being a guidance counselor. Or one of those teachers who doubles as one since students trust him enough to get advice from him. sams that one teacher where if you get him to talk about sailing he wont shut up and you can avoid the actual class topic.

Granny Rags is the eccentric librarian. She's still a bit loony but nowhere near canon. Just eccentric old lady.

sider is this one tiny child on daud & lizzy's street that says random weird shit to daud and everyone's like "mmkay kid's got issues". He puts stickers on people he likes. he makes the marked lil pins of his mark. siders name is something normal like mark but no one actually knows that so he’s just. the outsider

Oooooooh Sider is Granny Rag's grandson or grandnephew. He lives with her. and thats how he gets into the school. she brings him to the library to watch him. siders technically homeschooled but its in a school library

Corvo is going to the same school as the rest of them. Instant dislike between him and Daud. But Paloma pushes Corvo to give Daud a chance and they become friends and Lizzy and Daud are invited to have lunch with the Attanos.

Lizzy has troubles with the spicy food; meanwhile Daud takes one sniff of the smell and starts crying because it reminds him of his mom's cooking. corvo thinks daud is only friends with him for his mum's cooking

lizzy becomes friends with corvo just to talk to his bad bitch older sister (so corvo's sitting there like "ok so lizzy and daud why r u only friends with me for my family members)

what if beatrici does leave but its not her ~ mysteriously disappearing ~ its her going off to college/uni/whatever schooling bullshit. corvo's just sad.

there's one girl called delilah who daud got into a fist-fight with last week. jessamine is that one kid who is getting As in everything and is in like 80% of clubs

delilah is jess' half-sister but doesn't live with her but to try to make up for being a shit father and never there, euhorn is paying for del's school/ sending her here. which is a bit of a kick in the teeth seeing jess all the time

jess is the mayor's daughter or the daughter of some big businessman. Daughter of the Mayor who doesn't approve of Jess (or even Delilah) going to school with the kids of the local mobster. also theodanis is like euhorn's 2nd in command or smthn

In high school, Delilah and Breanna start dating. They have that ol' "Wait I am in love with my friend from middle school" realization. breanna and delilah are the only people that work out their feelings but ironically are the meanest people. They do have a period of mutual pining when they realize they have feelings for each other like 4 years into their friendship, it's shorter than the other couples but beats everyone else's in terms of dramatic whining

Also Corvo and Daud's mutual dislike is fed by the fact that Corvo's one friend is a kid nicknamed Slackjaw and he's Lizzy's long-lasting playground rival

billie is someone's younger kid who daud's had to babysit several times. he is like. the only person who will take babysitting jobs with her because everyone else cannot control this child. lizzy had to do it once bc daud was busy. never again

The whalers are the army of kids he babysits for money.i mean we already had him babysitting billie and thomas. He just picks up more and more over time. At first it's just Billie and Thomas but then he gets a reputation as a trustworthy babysitter and just keeps getting more requests. He's not sure how it happened, they just started showing up

thought of a character aspect but it involves dead/absent/whatever parents so i think everyone is gonna beat me to death for it. what if alex's absolute protectiveness over hypatia is because they have no other family left and its just th*everyone begins beating me to the ground with bats*. just kind of a. siblings sticking together cause theyve got no one else yknow. helping each other despite the uh. differences

Awww... They may be very different and disagree over numerous things, but they're got each others' backs when it counts

hypatia gets increasingly concerned and worried about her sister's increasingly violent tendencies and wants to work to. lessen those things before something genuinely bad happens. but also, she doesn't know How.

Are there any adults in the AU so far that would be qualified or experienced enough to attempt to help them out? My first guess would have been Hypatia herself, but that doesn't work for this AU. We don't have an actual therapist on board yet but a teacher could provide some first guidance. Improvised therapy with Stilton and Samuel as they work to find Alex a good therapist

one day alex is doing her usual nonsense and is threatening someone and hypatia sees the glint of a knife in her hand and against all higher judgement tackles alex to the ground and there's a whole Scene made from that. people just going huh. the girls are fightiiinngggg. people start to gather to see what the commotion is and hypatia helps alex to her feet (knife now confiscated) and hastily pulls her into the nearest bathroom for a stern talking-to away from prying eyes

going with the idea they’re all 16 (aka a year below me), i’m gonna place his age at like 13 and in the same grade. anyways yeah jindosh is the youngest of the Group being , 3 years younger than a good amount of them

jessamine heard one (1) potentially unfounded rumour that he took a cat apart and is going to make sure she keeps emily the cat very far away from him.. It was just a stuffed cat but still, rumors spread. Jindosh takes one of those cat stuffed animal things that's meant to move and stuff and took it apart so he could see what he could change in its programming. Then things spiraled from there

Jindosh is the robotics kid that inexplicably knows a bunch more than the class/program has actually taught anyone. jindosh is that kid who corrects the teacher. Jindosh has that energy, but I also love the idea of young Jindosh actually being the opposite of what he is in canon and is quiet/to himself bc big kids scary and hs scary

anyways yeah jindosh is the shy and quiet kid who has a very hard time opening up to ppl, usually he finishes tests way earlier than most so he spends a lot f time reading/if possible playing on whatever handheld he brought to school. one more thing with this, headphones + ipod are his best friends during lunchtime

anyways he tends to flock towards the “weird kids” and probably is friends w a lot of the kids in band bc they don’t treat him like ~uwu soft precious baby~ or like. a freak

the robotics kids including kirin managed to complete a remote controlled device drove it around the main hallway. liz is also on robotics and helped decorate what is essentially a fancy cardboard box on wheels.

sokolov is a science teacher who nobody likes. and art teacher. he's the kind of art teacher who's insufferable and doesn't let kids have fun because "art is serious"

Most of the school kids hate Sokolov because his art class aren't fun, but for a select few (Daud, Delilah) he'll show them a bit of engineering or unusual art things and they're like :O!!!!!! he plays favorites and he isn't hiding it

Mmmmm his relationship with Theodanis is like. Public knowledge they're not hiding, but the kids might not know purely because who's dating who among the adults is not something that would interest them. But he probably mentioned "his boyfriend" a few times already!

Could Stilton potentially run some sort of organization (formal or not) to advocate for improving the school in various ways? Like, in terms of the extracurriculars available and what not. If the school itself ,or whoever's in charge of that, doesn't want to fund a particular program, Stilton will help them organize to work for it, if not outright helping with the fundraising by donating money or things of his own

Corvo’s a really good thief because he doesn’t tell everyone about it, unlike some people [looks at daud and Delilah]. Delilah tells everyone about it. Daud tells everyone about it but leaves just enough plausible deniability that no one can prove anything but everyone knows it's him. Also they both have uber powerful parents

Corvo and Daud go buy some snack after school and when they get to paying they both take out the other's wallet from their pocket. One of them tries to steal the other's wallet and ends up with his own wallet in his hands

Once again Daud and Corvo's friendship consists in breaking into each other's rooms and searching each other's stuff. I love how since Daud lives in Hat's house. This implies that Corvo broke into Hat's house. Mortimer Hat. Local mobster. oh yeah 100%. managed to avoid the guard dog (lizzy) and everything! Their house has a sign "Beware of Lizzy". Is Daud that one kid who's always over prepared for literally anything that could happen? Absolutely. His friends mock him a lot about that but literally every item he carries proves itself useful at least once. They still insist that "just because the crocodile clips were useful once doesn't mean you have to carry them all the time"

Need some oddly specific item? Ask Daud, it's worth a shot. And also hope he likes you well enough because otherwise you're not getting help even if he has it.he keeps elmers glue and washable markers in the same bag where he keeps 3 folding knives

And Daud does go to find his mother at some point. I think... early on when he first escaped, then ended up at Hat's house, he would try and investigate. Sometimes when he disappeared for a day or two, it's because he was trying to find info about her. Not always, but sometimes.

Of course, he was 13, and didn't know where to look and didn't find anything. And then his life settled down and he didn't actively look anymore, but it stuck in the corner of his head. And when he finishes high school, he starts to look more seriously, and now Hat gives him a hand and he has friends who support him, and this time, he finds her.

originally it's just the dnd squad helping and somehow they wind up getting EVERYONE so the reunion ends up with daud seeing his mother and then there's like 10 people outside trying to be quiet and not ruin the moment. Billie and Thomas are now preteens and insisted to come along on Daud & co's Fun Vacation To Serkonos. they bring daud the dog

Idk if we've come to this conclusion yet but both coup crews being different friend groups. Idk how that'd work out with the ages (because I physically can't envision Campbell or Hiram as kids it breaks my brain) but on the other hand Daud accidentally finding himself in the same friend group as Waverly and the twins please. It's always so funny to me whenever I think back to the wholesome dh1 coup crew au and now to this, bc Custis is basically EVERYTHING Daud hates. The DH1 Coup Crew friend group is composed of the Twins, Waverly, Treavor who is here because he's trying to be included with his brothers, Teague who's here to profit off being friends with the rich kids, and Daud who has no idea how he ended up here. During this group project, Corvo’s in a group with Cecelia, Callista, Lydia and Wallace. Wallace is terrible bc he wanted to be in a group with Trevor but the girls are all great

For ages, I'm thinking DH1 crew being a couple years above the DH2 crew in general, the Boyle sisters are all in different years, then there's a bit of age variation in a single year (+/- 1 year except Jindosh who is younger)

alex sabotaging jindosh's shit. so hypatia can win. hypatia absolutely did not ask for that help. half of her says "no it's not fair i should stop her" half of her says "get his ass i'm winning this shit"

who would be in debate (besides jess who is probably the obvious choice). the pendletons. All 3. Jess tries to get corvo to join debate (that’s trip around the isles covered) but he never says anything ever and it goes horribly wrong

School play/musical that's a slightly off re-telling of dh

Sider writes the plot. Nobody knows how he got his plot to be picked but it does. He writes the entirety of dh1 but its a musical. It becomes such a hit that he ends up writing dh2 as the sequel

Intermission comes along and Corvo is in the cafeteria where the snacks are set up for sale, and is chunching away. The dressmaker is the costume designer

One time Emily the cat goes missing and Corvo hates seeing jess so distraught so he goes to see if teague knows anything. Turns our custis lured it out of the yard with cheese in order to help delilah steal it during a prank war between her and daud.

Yeah corvo fucking throttles custis and unlocks Emily the cat's carrier before bringing her to jess. them holding emily (cat) and being like. fuck we need to take care of this immediately and buy cat food and a littler box and multiple toys. Corvo walks into their house and Custis turns around on an office chair petting Emily (cat) like a James Bond villain bc he's dramatic. instead of the golden cat they keep her in a chuk e cheese

Custis is being all dramatic while morgan just got out of the shower

The band kids are in a war against the orchestra kids. I have no idea which character would be a band or orchestra kid. custis is a band kid. morgan is an orchestra kid for the drama. custis plays uh. Trombone. Nah Custis has french horn energy. morgan has violin energy.

If anyone would be a trombone player I honestly think it would be lizzy, only bc she can wack people with it. My bias is about to show but like Morgan also has flute energy imo but. the violin is the flute of strings. Violin is a very rich person instrument but like I feel like that belongs to either Jess or. idk tbh.

there can be many violin players. jess can be an actually good violin player who actually enjoys it, while morgan didnt really wanna join orchestra but he needs the credit and the violin was the cool choice.

Yeah lizzy is a trombone player makes sense. Also just. Custis "is here for the actual music and is very pretentious" Pendleton vs Lizzy "i like making loud noises and being obnoxious" Stride. Also bc of their choice of instrument,,,they share brass sectionals,,man out of all of the character dynamics to think about I didn't think that I would have Custis and Lizzy on my mind.

i mean jess canonically plays the harp so she might be that one kid whose parent decided they were ~special~ and needed an equally special instrument. Ik like, private schools and "rich" schools have harps in their ensemble so like.

Jindosh gives me vibes that he could play piano really well. Smth smth, used to play a lot before his finger got cut off and he couldn't play anymore :(.

Also who is like. The theatre kid. Martin. I can see him going back and forth between cast and crew. Not huge roles but he's there.

I could see him and Treavor fighting over roles. He and treavor get rival roles.

Dnd group

sider and the marked play dnd. and so the plot of DH is actually just their dnd game.

i was sorta thinking it was like a school club where they all end up assigned to dnd club. They meet up in the library. Slackjaw learns that Corvo talks to Granny on the regular because of the DnD games and asks him if she's said anything about eating him

During the first meeting the group felt weird about a 12 year old dming but he's weirdly good. Sider got a knack for predicting different ways the player's choices could go and how things could pan out. and he's great at starting conflict. And got great imagination about how the RP world would react to their actions

he's so confused as to how corvo keeps choosing not to kill people

delilah, daud and corvo are all like "hey why are all these people based off people that go to our school" "they are NOT" "uhuh so you're going to tell me that empress jessica coldwind isn't at all based off jessamine kaldwin"

Delilah and Corvo come up with their normal names and Daud just says "my character's called the Knife of Dunwall." and the entire table bursts into laughter. Sider says he needs a real name and Daud panics and just answers with a first name. Then later on Delilah gets a following in-game and says they'll be called the Brigmore Witches and Daud's like "and you dared mock me when I picked a name?"

Daud goes home after the first session and Lizzy asks about the game and it's like "So what did you call your character" "....................................the..................... the Knife of Dunwall" and Lizzy teases him about it until the end of time

Corvo's just there like "i'm playing a knight who's super nice and honest, his name is Corwin <:)". Corvo's first character is a lawful good paladin; several characters and campaigns later he only plays chaotic neutral gremlins

Delilah tries to become a god in-game and Sider really hates it

during one of Corvo and Daud's disagreements, Daud got mad and killed Jessica Coldwind in the game. They made up after that but it was a serious source of drama for weeks. Sider loved the drama and milked it for ages

one times jessamine visits on behalf of the student council and she brings cookies. del and daud are just nudging corvo and making fun of him for being *heart eyes* at jess when she shows up. she plays for a session, but she plays the ghost of Jessica and that's how the Heart works in this au. Sider passes her a page of his notes

alternatively she can't come in person so they just have to call her. so she's on corvo's phone, bc she's always super busy

Corvo calls her "i need advice i'm in a campaign can you pause your work for like 5 minutes". Daud and Delilah have to watch Corvo miss the dice track every single throw because he has his head in the clouds. Daud and Delilah tease him, and even Sider is kinda snickering

sider lets corvo have jess on the phone because he needs help playing dnd bc he just won't commit. his character hasn't even said anything in all the sessions. Sider asks him to start speaking more in character and Corvo commits too hard

it takes delilah and daud eventually being like "gdi" after a while of dnd and becoming friends (maybe corvo and daud aren't friends til dnd?) for them both to be like "corvo, jess, ask each other out this is painful". the dnd group make a whole thing of helping corvo ask jess out to a school dance or something because they're SO sick of corvo not realising -- only for jess to ask him first and all of daud & delilah's efforts to go to waste

Occasionally they'll be debating how to go into a battle because they don't like their odds, and suddenly Daud will be like "can you trust me and do x, y and z" and will find a completely out-of the box way to win. Corvo does that too but by avoiding the fight entirely

daud and delilah become exasperated with how corvo won't kill anyone while the two of them are murdering left right and centre -- daud eventually follows corvo's example and slowly starts to kill less. delilah says "fuck it" and tries to kill as much as she can

Delilah in the dnd campaigns sider runs is trying to become a lich and sider is ://// because whooo boy becoming a lich is. Hard.

delilah became a lich and then became the final boss, Corvo and Daud nearly died multiple times had it not been for some lucky rolls and healing potions.

Principal Hiram

Principal Hiram would be so funny tho, he's just the absolute worst

Daud, angstily in the back of the classroom being all "Just waiting to put a sharp piece of metal in between your eyes" whenever Burrows walks into their class

Hiram moved Jess across the room from corvo in one of their classes when they were sitting next to eachother and then corvo had to sit next to daud who made fun of him for making heart eyes at Jess across the room

Burrows would be the principal that drastically misunderstands what students actually want for programs or school events and nobody likes him for it
