2020 Boys Track & Field

The 2020 boys track and field team poses together after winning the Homewood-Flossmoor Indoor Open. The team was off to a great start, winning two invitationals and placing second in another before the season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Season Shortened

During the off-season, a new track was installed with the finish line moving from the northeast corner of the track to the southwest corner. An artificial turfed field was put in the infield. Unfortunately, no meet would be held on that track in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The boys were able to have eight weeks of practice with five meets. On March 13, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker ordered schools closed for two weeks because of the coronavirus pandemic. The order was then extended before later declaring school buildings would remain closed for the rest of the academic school year. On April 21, the IHSA officially cancelled all spring sports tournaments.
Before that happened, they boys were off to a strong start. Senior Rick Undesser had set a new school record in pole vault at 15-1.5. At what would become their last meet of the season, Mustang Relays, the 4x800m relay team of Adam Shaw, Evan Stonitsch, Jason Hoffman, and Vincent Van Eck won by running the fastest time of the season in Illinois and the fifth fastest in the nation. Their time was 7:51.68, an indoor school record. The 4x200m relay team of Tyler Fals, Hector Ramos, Adrien Manning, and Nick Haase finished 5th at Mustang Relays. And the 4x400m relay team of Fals, Ramos, Stonitsch, and Hoffman was 2nd.
