Season Summary
Having to travel out to Rock Island week one, the 2024 varsity football team, easily rolled past the Rocks. Week two they faced Neuqua Valley and sealed the game with a Zane Caves to Kooper Fisher pass on 4th and 22. Then kicker Sean Sample hit a storybook, last-second field goal for the win.
Weeks 3 and 4 against Joliet Central and Romeoville were both blowout wins. Minooka set the scoring record in school history with 70 against Central, as well as setting the school differential record of 56 against Romeoville.
Going into the hardest half of their schedule in conference play started out with a good all-around team win against Oswego East. The inexperience against quality teams began to show with some critical errors, but Minooka still ended up with the win.
Against Yorkville the game was tied at 7 in the 4th quarter with two early touchdowns for both teams. The Minooka defense was holding them all game, but got worn out and let up a touchdown. The offense still could not get anything moving. Going 3 and out forcing the already exhausted defense out, Minooka let up another touchdown in one play., sealing the game for the Foxes and handing Minooka its first loss of the season.
Plainfield North was a must-win bounce-back game for the Indians facing their first real threatening away game. The team was locked in all game and created their own environment easily taking care of the Tigers, 21-7.
Week 8 against Oswego, Minooka's defense was doing the best they could, being out majority of the time, holding the deficit 28-3 going into half. Coming back out the Panthers shut the game down and won 42-10, sealing the conference championship for Oswego.
Bolingbrook was a back-and-forth game. Bolingbrook was already out of the playoff picture and the Indians were just playing for seeding. Minooka came out with the win at home 29-22.
Heading up north ranked as the underdog at No. 17, Minooka easily took care of Chicago Taft in the first round of the playoffs with 37-6 win. The second round of playoffs was against No. seed Lincoln-Way East. Minooka held it to 17-0 going into half at home. The offense could not get anything going and the East defense shut down everything thrown their way, ending the Indians season once again at the hump of the 2nd round. Overall the Indians had a typical season and exceeded their expectations going into the season.
Minooka finished the year with six all-conference athletes -- three on offense and three on defense.
