Conference Record 7-2

The 2017 Minooka Indians had a lot of question marks entering the season. How will a new cast of Hall of Fame coaches do at Minooka? Terry McCombs and John Belskis came to change the culture. Big seasons were expected out of Max Christiano, Zach Gessner and Derek Wentworth. Minooka was hit with a roadblock week one, losing 31-13 against the Oswego Panthers. After that loss the Indians were hungry and went on a roll, winning 7 straight, including a big win over rival Plainfield North 23-22. Unfortunately, a loss to Plainfield South in the last week of the regular season killed there hopes of being Conference Champions. The record was good enough to get them home field advantage against Niles Notre Dame. A Connor Etzkorn touchdown run won the game in overtime, advancing the Indians 22-19. The Barrington Broncos were up next, led by Northwestern commit Ray Niro. The Broncos were ranked No. 2. Another overtime thriller was capped off by a trick play where quarterback Zach Gessner threw a screen to left tackle Derek Wentworth. Edwardsville was the opponent for the state semifinals. The Tigers were led by junior quarterback, Kendall Abdur-Rahman, who had committed to Notre Dame to play wide receiver. The Indians fell 28-25. The successful season showed on the record book, with the all-time records of team interceptions with 25.
