For one of our assessments we were required to create a short film based on the concept, ‘Late to Class’. The outline was that a student is making their way through the school while facing several problems or challenges. Using that idea, we were required to create a film that covers the concept as well as being original.

In my film one student is a witch or wizard who secretly uses her magic to help her and others. This idea was brought up after a short discussion about Harry Potter as well as the fact that one of us owned a wand; a potential prop. Other group members suggested adding a musical and relaxed theme, inspired by the opening scene of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Combining magic with a musical and relaxed vibe as well as a generic ‘late’ character rushing around, we had created an original and entertaining idea.

When I made this short film wanted to make it entertaining. I thought about how long each clip would go for and if it was dragged on for too long. We also had to think about how we were going to film certain scenes, so it looked like the ‘witch’ student had teleported or disappeared. We also had to think a lot about how we were going to make the reversed scene, so it looked like the student magically got back on her feet.
