This piece titled, ‘Things are still burning’, is inspired by and named to the song ‘Are things still burning’ by Em Harris. This song triggered some extreme emotions within me with its bittersweet and sombre nostalgic tones and lyrics. I wanted to capture these feelings in an image so I drew a figure far away from a ruined earth, just observing to reflect the detached and solemn feeling of the song. The image intended to be peaceful, quiet, yet sad; in keeping with the lyrics of the song. The character is curious and reflecting on a past life, but implying that they will never be able to return to that, the situation has changed too much and they must accept this, despite still wanting to know how things are going and if the turmoil still exists.
