A piece that has meaning, that is inspiring, that is refreshing; a piece that screams nature, that demonstrates values of life. I aimed to make a piece that not only is captivating, but something that is of great significance, in which I had chosen a vivid-red dove with white highlights as the focus to symbolise eternal peace, innocence and optimism.

Through this piece, I could express and display how I envision nature. The theme of nature is portrayed through the red dove, as well as the pink, orange and yellow flowers. On the applique, several symbols were utilised to depict nature. The red dove is seen in the air, where the dove takes off from the ground; the ground represents our hardships and struggles, the dove symbolises us as an individual, where we must let go of our hardships to find peace and independence.

The colourful flowers; pink, orange and yellow indicates the growth and beauty of nature. The delicate light pink flower portrays grace and purity; the soft pale yellow signifies happiness, success and pride; the pure pastel orange signifies passion and enthusiasm. These are essential aspects to thrive as an individual.

The solid sky-blue background represents a healthy environment for a beautiful live dove with bloomed colourful flowers. To further articulate my creativity, several stitches were utilised such as: blanket stitches, chain stitches, running stitches, hemming stitches and beading stitches.

The use of multiple stitches and beads enabled me to create a unique and creative piece of artwork. The goal of this cushion was to express my thoughts and ideas of life and nature through the use of colours, materials and symbols. During the design process, I had to cogitate how I could create a piece that has a meaningful concept and how I could manipulate the limited amount of materials to create something magnificent and distinctive
