I created the piece when we were preparing for Grandparents Day. I wanted to paint something that our grandparents would enjoy. I tried to create a bright, colourful and original picture of flowers. I decided on a watering can for the flowers because when I was young we did lots of planting in unusual containers.

To make the bright coloured flowers stand out I used darker colours for the background. I felt something was missing and when I thought about my garden at home I remembered that there are always lots of bees. That’s why I included the bee. The splatters were added to lighten up the dark areas. I tried to make a happy painting that would make people smile.
