Grade One students built on ideas from the past exploring the mythological being “The Rainbow Serpent” - a sacred reptile to the Aboriginal people Australia-wide. Many Aboriginal tribes have different interpretations of what a Rainbow Snake symbolizes. The serpent’s main purpose revolves around the belief that she is the giver of life. In this mixed media piece students used circles to form the base, placing animals, people and trees in the form of symbols in the circles of life to show an understanding of the Rainbow Serpents relationship with mother earth.
