We were asked to research a painting of a modern portrait that appealed to us. I was inspired to paint David Bowie because of it’s bright colours and its painterly technique.

Our first was task was to mix and record most of the colours found in the painting and keep it as a reference sheet.

We then chose a small section of the painting and tried to recreate it using the same brush strokes.

After feeling confident we began to paint the portrait. I wanted to capture the many colours of David Bowie’s Music Career and his incredible life. The colours represent the emotions we all experience as we travel through the journey of mankind.

I was pleased with the final outcome and felt that I was able to capture the likeness and brushstrokes of the original painting.
