The aim for this project was to create a clay sculpture piece using the coil-pot method. When deciding what to create, I knew that I wanted to attempt sculpting a head of human and incorporate facial features.

I took my inspiration from artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Sandro Botticelli, whose artworks appealed to me the most. My interest was drawn towards the painting titled ‘Portrait of Joseph Roulin’ by Vincent Van Gogh. The reason why I choose this piece was to challenge myself and take a 2-dimensional painting and turn it into a 3-dimensional sculpture. The aesthetics of the painting were important to me and I wanted to include each individual element into my coil-pot.
