For this piece I was required to draw a realistic portrait of someone I knew or admired. I chose Dan Reynolds, lead singer of the band Imagine Dragons. His band is a pop rock band and have created 4 albums of which I have been enjoying for the past few years. The emotion and passion he has in his songs is what I enjoy most. He is my all-time favourite singer so it was a pleasure to take on the challenge of creating a portrait representing him. I created this portrait by starting with a flat grey colour then slowly adding depth in certain areas. I used darker shades to add small details and the corner of my eraser to add strong highlights. This was used for the lips, eyes, hair, facial hair and pores. Adding details was not easy; I was constantly smudging and blending too much, losing the realistic effect. My biggest challenge was creating the hair. I had no experience in drawing hair before so it took a lot of trial and error. I eventually found a technique I liked and decided to use that. Overall, I was pleased with the results and would like to take on another challenge someday.
