Portraits of Nature

Jack, Year 12

Marcellin College, Bulleen

This photographic series displayed nature in a way that is like human studio portraiture, where humans are presented in their ‘ideal’ form. I wished to convey the true beauty of natural objects and thought that using studio lighting to isolate my subjects was the best way to do this, as I was able to shape the light and arrange the objects to show interesting shapes and forms. I did not change the objects in any way, they were merely displayed in a somewhat personified manner. All of these objects would not always necessarily be admired in day to day life, but I have shown them to be quite beautiful and interesting, even though all of the objects have a slight hint of decay and have aged.
