The inspiration came from the TV show, ‘Vikings’, and monotone, black and white portraiture. The painting is only white paint on a black canvas, no grey mixing. It is a study of light and shade using minimal paint and relying on the black showing under the white, to create tone and texture. The white paint has been built up in soft layers to create a striking final piece.
