It’s hard to believe that today, 2024 is 63 years since I came to Hadasim. It’s also 50 years since I left Israel. That’s why I am writing those few words in English…

I came to Hadasim from an orphanage Alumim in Kfar-Saba. After my Mom, older brother and I immigrated to Israel from Poland 1957, I was sent to Alumim. In those days Eastern European children with one parent only were accepted and accommodated by Aliat Hanoar into this and similar institutions.

My adjustment to life in Israel was pretty hard. I often wondered why the children of my mother’s neighbors in Tel-Aviv could live with their parents but I couldn’t.

Coming to Hadasim felt like an improvement. The quality of life and the overall atmosphere felt a bit better. 

The two things from those days that come to mind were ballroom dancing in the chicken coup area against the rules, and of course the comradery we all exhibited by painting on the wall “Ma tov lehitbatel we acharkach ktcat lanuach” Natan Chmara who exhibited artistic qualities painted the wall and we all set down and sang. I still keep in touch with several friends from those days.
